Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Start with who will update the site. WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of its pages without asking a developer. Its range of plugins gives you options for extending the site, though someone needs to keep WordPress and its plugins updated for security. Think about who will take responsibility for those updates after launch, as well as who will add new content.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site that an owner wants to run alone. You trade some control over code and speed for that self-service approach, and moving away later can mean rebuilding the site. It is worth considering how much control your team expects to need as the site changes.
A custom Next.js site is faster and more secure, and it can still have an editor. We recommend WordPress or a custom build after learning how your team works: how often you publish, who makes changes and how much editing control they need.
Local
What Provo organisations need from their websites
Provo is a focus area for technology development, with startups building products. A startup site needs to explain the product in plain English and give interested visitors a useful next step, such as joining a waitlist or booking a demo. That gives people a way to respond to the product explanation without having to search the site for a contact route.
Provo is also home to BYU, a private religious university. For a university website project, the sitemap and page structure need clear owners so that visitors can find their way through the content and the team knows who is responsible for each part. If job applications are a goal, the brief should identify who handles those enquiries.
Rules
Accessibility for a United States website
US Department of Justice guidance says the ADA covers goods and services that businesses open to the public offer on the web, and identifies WCAG as helpful guidance. For your build, we agree an accessibility target in the brief and use it to guide the page designs and development. WCAG has A, AA and AAA levels; the W3C encourages use of the latest version.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m to 13h30m ahead of the mainland US in winter, with the difference one hour less during daylight saving time in most places; the shared board gives us a place to keep work and feedback visible across that gap.
- 01
Discover
You explain who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do. We use that to agree the scope and shape the sitemap.
- 02
Plan and design
We prepare the sitemap, wireframes and desktop and mobile designs. Review the wireframes for content and page priorities before focusing on colours.
- 03
Build and test
We build in code or a content management system your team can edit, then test on real devices and browsers. Your feedback helps us check the work against the agreed scope.
- 04
Launch and care
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover. Ongoing support follows launch.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather these with the people who will contribute to the site.
- Your services or products, ranked by business priority, so the navigation can lead with them.
- Examples of sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
- Domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console access, or the name of the person who holds it.
- Real photos of your team, premises and finished work; book photography ahead if needed.
- A folder of case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The scope determines the design, build and checking work.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need more design and build work than pages sharing a template.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, multiple languages and CRM connections add design, development and testing.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; writing, photography or translation add work.
Migration
Moving blog posts, news archives and downloads from an old site adds transfer and checking work.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Provo
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire someone to build a website?
There is no fixed price; it depends on the agreed scope. A custom design for a specific audience takes a different brief from an adapted template, and gathering service descriptions, case studies and photos adds work. A separate content editor also brings more moving parts to host and maintain.
What is included in the website build?
The build includes development, an editor where needed, and launch setup. We use Next.js for custom development or WordPress when your team needs full editing control. We also set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, with a walkthrough so your team can take over day-to-day use.
Can you work with our existing brand?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Bring the actual headings and paragraphs into the design process too: placeholder text can make a layout look finished until the real content turns out to be a different length.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep the domain and hosting accounts in your business’s name and grant access to the people doing the work. That leaves your team in control of the accounts as well as the site itself.
What should we manage after launch?
Decide who will update news, projects and job posts, and review how the site generates enquiries. In analytics, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then check which pages those visitors started from. That gives your team a practical way to review the site’s performance.
