Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Start with editing. WordPress suits a team that publishes frequently and wants to change much of the site itself. A custom Next.js site suits a business that wants fast pages and a design without template limits, with a developer available for structural changes. A custom site can still have an editor. We recommend an option after understanding how your team works.
A headless setup connects a custom front end to a separate editor. It suits a site that needs speed and substantial editing, though there are more moving parts to host and maintain. Hosted builders such as Wix, Squarespace and Webflow fit smaller sites an owner wants to run alone; they offer less control over code and speed, and moving away can mean rebuilding.
Design choice affects the brief too. A custom design fits a specific brand, audience or content need. For a simple site, an adapted template is an option when its layout is reworked around your actual content.
Local
What Cambridge organisations need from a website
Kendall Square has a high concentration of startups. If you are launching a product or raising money there, your site needs a plain explanation of the product and a clear next step, such as joining a waitlist or booking a demo. Agree what visitors should do before deciding how the home page is arranged.
Biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies are among Cambridge’s major employers. If your company supplies products to other businesses, useful pages could include product capabilities, certifications and downloadable specifications. A quote form should ask for enough detail for your team to respond. Decide who receives those requests and what the visitor sees after submitting the form.
Rules
What a US website project has to handle
US Department of Justice guidance says ADA Title III covers goods and services that businesses open to the public offer on the web, and identifies WCAG as helpful guidance. For your build, we agree an accessibility target in the brief and use the chosen WCAG success criteria to guide the page designs. Set the target before design starts, so the page structure can be reviewed against it as the designs take shape.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and one hour less during daylight saving time. Shared boards keep the scope and feedback available across that difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do. We use those answers to agree the scope and shape the sitemap.
- 02
Plan the pages
We prepare wireframes before visual design. Review the content and its order at this stage; colours come later.
- 03
Build and test
We develop in Next.js or use WordPress when your team needs full editing control. We test the build on real devices and browsers.
- 04
Check before launch
Proofread every page, submit each form once and confirm who receives its messages. This gives your team a chance to catch small errors before visitors see them.
- 05
Launch and hand over
We set up your domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then give your team a walkthrough.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have from this list.
- Your logo in SVG, AI or EPS format, plus brand colours and fonts, or a note that these still need creating.
- A ranked list of the services or products you want to feature.
- Sites you like and dislike, with a reason for each choice.
- Login details for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or the name of the person who holds them.
- Real photos of your team, premises and finished work.
- Your main goal, such as quote requests or calls, and who handles each enquiry.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time needed
The work grows or shrinks with the scope you agree.
Page templates
Distinct layouts take more design and build work than pages that share a template.
Content readiness
Copy and photos ready to publish leave less work than a scope that includes copywriting, photography or translation.
Migration
Moving an existing news archive, blog or collection of downloads adds transfer and checking work.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with deciding colours, typefaces and a logo during the project.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Cambridge
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price for every website. The scope of pages and functions, the work needed to gather content, and the platform’s maintenance needs all affect the work. WordPress, for example, needs regular updates to stay secure. Decide who will supply your service descriptions, team information and photos when you define the scope.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We can build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. We also provide an editor for pages, news, projects and careers that your team can use without training, so those parts of the site remain accessible to the people responsible for updating them.
Will I own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Your business should also hold the domain and hosting accounts in its own name and grant access to the people working on the site. That keeps control of the accounts with your team when you need changes or choose to work with someone else.
What search setup is included?
We build pages with metadata, structured data and sitemaps, alongside fast load times. A clear heading structure belongs in the build too. Before launch, check that an indexing block left from development has been removed; missing titles or a missing sitemap can also keep a new site out of search results.
What happens after the site launches?
We offer ongoing support after launch. Your team should also decide who will update news, projects and job posts. To assess the site, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions in analytics, then check which pages those enquiries started from. That gives you useful information for future updates.
