Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its choice of plugins gives you ways to add features, but the site needs regular updates to stay secure. Think about who will take responsibility for those updates as well as who will add new pages and posts.
A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a business that wants fast pages, tight security and a design without template limits. The trade-off is that structural changes generally need a developer, so consider how often you expect to change the layout as well as the words and images.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow is another option for a small site you want to run alone. You get less control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. We recommend WordPress or a custom Next.js site after learning how your team works and what it needs to edit.
Local
What Alberta businesses need from their websites
Alberta’s service sector includes healthcare and professional services. A clinic needs clear service pages, practitioner profiles and opening hours, with a booking or call option that works on a phone. An accounting or consulting practice needs service and partner pages that give prospective clients a way to check expertise before calling.
Alberta also has tech companies, mainly in Calgary and Edmonton. A startup launching a product needs a plain explanation of what it does and a way for visitors to join a waitlist or book a demo. Those actions should have a clear place in the site’s page design.
For Alberta businesses involved in industrial products, past work can be useful evidence. Engineering firms, for example, need a portfolio with project photos and details that prospective clients can review before getting in touch.
Rules
What a website project in Canada needs to handle
If you plan to send commercial electronic messages, consent belongs in the sign-up flow. We set up a consent option and include the sender’s current mailing address and an unsubscribe mechanism in those messages. Plan who will handle unsubscribe requests, too; the requirement is to action them within 10 business days.
If you want a .ca domain, check that the registrant meets the Canadian Presence Requirements before choosing the address. A Canadian corporation, citizen or permanent resident is among the eligible registrants. We set up the domain at launch using the details you provide.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 11h30m ahead of Alberta, so the shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see the work between calls.

We prepare the sitemap, wireframes and page designs for desktop and mobile, then refine the designs with your feedback.
- 05
Build and launch
We build the agreed site, test it on real devices and browsers, and provide ongoing support after launch.

Proofread each page, submit every form and confirm who receives its messages before the site goes live.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather these materials so we can discuss the site using your actual content and priorities.
- Brand filesYour logo in SVG, AI or EPS, plus your colours and fonts, or a note that they still need creating.
- Services or productsA list ranked by what you most want to sell.
- Website examplesSites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each.
- Account detailsLogins for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or the name of the person who holds them.
- PhotosImages of your team, premises and finished work.
- Proof of workCase studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships in one folder.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of a website?
The work involved changes with the material you have and the structure you need.
Content gathering
Service descriptions, team bios, case studies and photos take work to collect; decide early who will supply each item.
Existing content
Blog posts, news archives and downloadable files from an old site add migration and checking work.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide reduce design effort compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.
Site architecture
A headless setup pairs a custom front end with a separate editor, giving a heavily edited site more moving parts to host and maintain.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when planning your website
Choosing the platform too early
Decide who will update the site and how often before selecting the platform.
Designing around placeholder text
Bring real headings and paragraphs into the designs so their length can be accounted for in the layout.
Reviewing only on a large screen
Check every page on a phone before approving the design.
Putting accounts in someone else’s name
Hold the domain and hosting accounts in your business’s name and grant access to the people doing the work.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Alberta
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. Features such as booking, member logins or a CRM connection add design, build and testing work; copywriting, photography or translation also increase the scope compared with supplying content ready to publish. Ask for a quote once the scope is agreed, including whether preparing it is free.
Is a professionally built website still worth considering?
Yes, if you need a clear way for visitors to understand your services and contact you. Decide where each form sends its messages, who receives quote requests and what the confirmation says. You can also choose whether WhatsApp or click-to-call appears on mobile, so visitors have a suitable way to get in touch.
What is included in the website build?
The build includes forms for contact and quote enquiries, routed to the right inbox, plus WhatsApp and click-to-call. It also includes search-ready details such as metadata, structured data and sitemaps. Discuss the forms and pages you need when agreeing the scope, so the site supports the enquiries you want to receive.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for use on the web where needed. Share the files you already have and tell us if any elements are still being decided, so we can discuss what needs to be prepared for the site.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Keep a record of the account access your business holds and the people who manage it, so your team knows where to go when it needs to make changes or provide access for future work.
What should we manage after launch?
Choose who will keep news, projects and job posts current. Your team can use the content editor for those updates, along with pages and careers content. In analytics, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, and check which pages visitors started from before making contact.
