Choosing

Should you customise a theme or build a custom storefront?

Customising an existing theme keeps setup lighter and makes later theme updates simpler. It suits a store where the available layouts fit the products and the way customers buy. A custom theme gives you a design built around your brand and unusual products, but later layout changes need development work. Think about who will maintain the pages after launch as well as how you want them to look.

A headless storefront using Hydrogen or Next.js suits a content-led brand or an unusual buying flow. It changes how your team manages the storefront: you give up the theme editor, and apps that add features through a theme might not work. Check the tools you expect staff to use before choosing this route.

Checkout has its own limits. Shopify runs it, with standard customisation available from the Basic plan up. Apps that change the information, shipping and payment steps are limited to Shopify Plus. If your proposed buying flow depends on changes at those steps, identify them before deciding on a storefront or plan.

Market

What do buyers in Ireland need from your store?

A retailer with a physical shop might need online and in-store stock in one system. Shopify's point-of-sale app works alongside the online store. A growing direct-to-consumer brand might instead need a custom theme, subscriptions, reviews and email flows connected to its store data. Start with the buying and stock tasks your staff handle, then decide which store features support them.

For payments, we configure the theme, products, collections, shipping, taxes and payment settings for the market you sell in. Stripe lists Ireland among the countries where businesses can sign up to accept payments. If you use a third-party gateway, Shopify charges an extra transaction fee even when Shopify Payments is active, so compare the total cost per order across gateways.

Rules

What does a Shopify project in Ireland need to handle?

Cookies that are not strictly necessary for a service the user explicitly requested need clear information and consent before they are stored or accessed. We set up a consent banner and information for visitors, with the consent choice accounted for when the relevant tools are added.

Electronic direct marketing generally needs the recipient's clear, affirmative consent, subject to a limited existing-customer exception. We set up the marketing sign-up so the customer can make that choice. Online sellers must also make payment clear, avoid pre-ticked boxes for additional payments and let customers review the full terms before the contract is concluded; we set up the relevant choices and terms pages with those requirements in mind.

How it runs

How a Shopify development project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of Ireland, or 4h30m during Irish summer time, so the shared board gives us a place to keep decisions and work visible between conversations.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, customers and goals, then agree the store's scope with you. Bring the tasks you need the store to handle and the tools your staff use.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare store pages for desktop and mobile. You review them and share feedback, which we use to refine the designs before writing theme code.

  3. 03

    Build and preview

We work on an unpublished theme copy. You preview and approve it before publication, while the live store keeps trading during the build.

  4. 04

    Launch

We connect the domain, remove the store password and switch payments to live. We also import redirects and place a real test order, which is then refunded.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

These details help us agree what the store needs and what your team will supply.

  • Your Shopify account and plan in the business's own name and billing, so the store, data and subscriptions belong to the business from the start.
  • Consistent product photos for each colour or style, plus the size charts, care instructions and specifications you want on product pages.
  • Business and bank details for your payment provider, along with shipping, returns, privacy and terms policies. Review generated policy templates before using them.
  • A list of current and planned tools, such as reviews, accounting and couriers, with the job each needs to do.
  • For a migration, exports of products, customers and orders, plus the existing URLs that bring the most traffic and sales.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and time of Shopify development?

The scope determines the design, setup and testing work involved.

  • Catalogue

Products with extra options, bundles or made-to-order choices need more setup and theme work than a simpler catalogue.

  • Theme

A custom theme involves design around your brand and a build for speed on mobile. The pages and features it needs shape the work.

  • Migration

Moving products alone is lighter than also moving customers, order history, reviews, gift cards and redirects from an existing platform.

  • Integrations and markets

Stock and price sync with other systems add work, as do markets with their own prices, translations and shipping rates.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with Shopify development

  • Adding an app for every small need

Apps can add page scripts and subscriptions. Check what each app does and inspect theme files for leftover code when uninstalling it.

  • Migrating without redirects

Product and collection URLs change to Shopify's fixed paths. Prepare an old-to-new map for launch; redirects work only from URLs that no longer load a page.

  • Using inconsistent product data

Automated collections and storefront filters read tags, product types and vendors. Keep those fields consistent so products appear in the intended places.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Ireland

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to hire a Shopify developer?

There is no fixed price: the work depends on the scope. Custom business logic adds development and testing, while integrations for tools such as subscriptions, accounting and ERP need connection and testing. Public apps with Shopify Functions work on any plan; custom apps containing Function APIs need Shopify Plus. Ask us for a quote once the scope is agreed.

Can I hire someone to build me a Shopify store?

Yes. We design a custom theme around your brand and build it for speed on mobile. We also train your team to run orders, products and discounts, so you can handle those store tasks yourselves after handover.

What can you set up on product and collection pages?

We can structure collections and product details around your catalogue. Collections can be selected manually or populated by conditions such as product type, vendor or price. Metafields hold details such as dimensions, care instructions and size charts, which the theme can show in their own section.

Should I use one store for several countries?

One store can target several countries through markets, with local-currency pricing, translations and international domains. Separate stores suit a business that needs different catalogues or teams for each country, or payouts in different currencies. Choose based on how your catalogue and staff need to operate across those markets.

Who owns the store and controls developer access?

The store stays in your account, and you own your domain, content and code. A developer works through a collaborator account that you approve. You choose its permissions and can remove them at any time, so you retain control of access after the work is done.

What support and checks follow launch?

Launch is followed by ongoing support from the people who designed and built your store. Review apps, staff accounts and collaborator access periodically, removing access you no longer use. Shopify reports show measures such as conversion and cart abandonment; Search Console shows organic clicks and product-page indexing.
