Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
React Native shares most code across iOS and Android and fits apps built around accounts, bookings, forms, maps or content. It uses platform interface components, while some logic can be shared with a React website. We usually recommend it for this kind of app. You still need to check screens and behaviour on both platforms.
Native development fits an app that needs deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is a separate codebase for each platform, with both needing maintenance. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it draws its own interface and suits a highly customised design if your team is willing to work in Dart.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool that does not need an app-store listing. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen.
Market
What app users in Ireland may expect
If you run a clinic, salon or gym, your customers may need to book and pay in the app, while staff need a view of the day’s schedule. Stripe lists Ireland among the countries where businesses can sign up to accept payments, so it is an option to consider for a booking checkout.
The payment flow must match what you sell. Google Play billing is required for digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app, but must not be used for physical services such as transport; some regions allow alternative billing. If your customers already use your website frequently, an app can reuse their existing accounts and data.
Rules
What an app project in Ireland needs to handle
If your online service relies on consent to process a child’s personal data, children under 16 need a parent’s or guardian’s consent. We set up a parent or guardian consent flow for the information your app collects under that condition, and make the relevant choice part of the account experience.
A companion website using non-essential cookies needs to give clear information and obtain consent before storing or accessing them. We set up a consent banner for those cookies, with the information users need to make that choice.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 5h30m ahead of Ireland, or 4h30m during Irish summer time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see the work as it moves between conversations.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task your users need to complete and tell us who will manage the service.
- 02
Design
We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can check the flow and tell us where a screen does not fit how your customers or staff work.
- 03
Test the prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff and watch where they hesitate. A screen is cheaper to change at this stage than after it has been built.
- 04
Build and launch
We build and test the agreed work, then handle launch setup and ongoing care. You review what we have made and give us the feedback needed to move it forward.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Write a short list of the tasks people must complete in the first release, in the order they will do them.
- Developer accountsStart registering them in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification.
- Testing accessA new personal Google Play account needs a closed test before a production release.
- Privacy policyPrepare one that matches the data your app collects, for the App Store listing and the app itself.
- Apple account deletionIf users can create accounts, plan an in-app way to start deleting them; deactivation alone is insufficient.
- Google Play account deletionPlan an in-app deletion path and a web link for deletion requests.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing of app development
The scope determines the work to design, build and test before release.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Integrations
A payment gateway, booking system or scanner adds setup, testing and work to handle failures.
Interface
Custom animation, extra languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
Offline work
Showing recently loaded information is modest work; editing records offline and resolving conflicts when they sync is substantially larger.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Wrapping the website
An app shell around an existing site risks rejection. Plan useful app functionality that gives people a reason to install it.
Demanding sign-up too soon
Let people see and use features without logging in when the app has no significant account-based features.
Adding tracking without updating privacy details
Check what each analytics or advertising SDK collects and include that data in Google Play’s Data safety form.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Ireland
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The work changes substantially if you need a new backend and admin panel, live tracking or chat, or payments and subscriptions. An existing backend with a documented API reduces the work compared with building those tools from scratch. Agree the scope before comparing quotes so each covers the same features.
How should you choose an app development company?
Ask how the team will build and release the parts your service needs. For example, we can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, and handle app-store listings and release. Ask a prospective developer to explain how those responsibilities fit your project before you agree the scope.
What is included in a mobile app project?
A project commonly includes the phone app, a backend for accounts and data, and an admin panel for staff. The panel might let your team find customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts. Analytics and crash reporting belong in the first release, so you can see where people leave a task and which devices crash.
Who owns the app and its accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep your developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name as well. When an agency or freelancer holds those accounts, moving the app later becomes harder; ownership should be clear before development starts.
What support does an app need after launch?
Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features after release. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, so maintenance releases need a place in your plan. Review retention, drop-off in the main task and the crash-free rate to see how each release is performing.
Will you submit the app to the stores?
Yes. We handle listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. If your app has a login, Apple expects a working demo account and a live backend during submission. Leave room in your launch plan to fix issues and resubmit if the store rejects an incomplete or crashing build.
