What you get

What’s included in mobile app development

  • App design

Screens and flows designed for iOS and Android conventions.

  • Cross-platform build

One React Native codebase for both platforms, with native modules where needed.

  • Backend & APIs

Accounts, data, notifications and admin tools behind the app.

  • Push notifications

Timely, targeted notifications that bring people back.

  • Payments & subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions on both stores.

  • Store launch

App Store and Google Play listings, submission and release.

Tools we use: React Native, Expo, Swift, Kotlin, Firebase, Node.js.

Choosing

Should you build a native or cross-platform app?

A cross-platform app suits products built around accounts, forms, lists, bookings, maps, payments or content. React Native shares most of its code across iOS and Android while rendering each platform’s own interface components. Web developers familiar with JavaScript or TypeScript can contribute, and some logic can also be shared with a React web app. That gives you a common codebase to maintain while retaining platform-specific screens.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded product whose screens need to look identical across platforms. Native development in Swift and Kotlin fits apps with deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. The trade-off is maintaining separate codebases for iPhone and Android.

A progressive web app can suit a staff tool and avoids store review, though it will not appear in app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can request notification permission only after being added to the Home Screen. We use React Native for most apps and go native when deep device features make that the better fit.

Local

What San Francisco businesses need from an app

San Francisco’s technology and finance businesses may already have customers using a web platform. When people use that platform frequently, an app can give them access to the same accounts and data on their phones. We build a shared backend for the app, website and admin tools, so staff have one place to work with that information.

Healthcare and professional services are also part of the city’s economy. A clinic needs booking, reminders, payments and a staff view of the day’s schedule. A service organisation with staff working in the field needs job forms, photos, signatures and location details that sync to the office when signal returns. Those needs shape both the phone screens and the tools staff use.

Rules

What a US mobile app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the US accessibility rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We design the app screens and flows against that standard and build them for the required level of access. Include that work in the scope from the start, alongside the tasks residents need to complete.

Payment setup follows what you sell. We set up in-app purchases and subscriptions for digital features used in the app, and card checkout for physical goods or services used outside it. Stripe is available to businesses signing up in the United States; some storefronts also allow links to outside payment options.

How it runs

How a mobile app project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 13h30m ahead of Pacific time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time, so the shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible between calls.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the main task your customers need to complete.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flows with the people who will use them.

  3. 03

    Prototype review

Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback can reveal screen changes while they are cheaper to make than after the build.

  4. 04

    Build and test

You receive test builds on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. Try the main task in real use and share what you find.

  5. 05

    Launch

We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You provide access to those accounts so the release stays associated with your business.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

We start with your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope together.

  • List the actions users need in the first release, in the order they will do them.
  • Note the website, CRM, booking, ERP or payment systems involved, their APIs and who holds admin access.
  • Start your company’s Apple and Google developer accounts; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires links in the listing and app.
  • List analytics and advertising SDKs so their data collection is covered in Google Play’s Data safety form.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline of app development

The scope of the work determines how much design, backend development and testing the project needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Interface variations

Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.

  • User-generated content

Moderation needs filters, reporting, blocking and published contact details, adding work to both the app and staff tools.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development

  • Wrapping a website in an app shell

Give people useful app features. Apple’s guidelines ask for more than a repackaged site, and a wrapper risks rejection.

  • Demanding sign-up too early

Let people see useful content or complete a task first where account features are not central to the app.

  • Requesting notification permission at launch

Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user agrees.

Questions

Asked by businesses in San Francisco

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. Offline editing and later syncing take more work than showing the last loaded data, while an existing backend with a documented API reduces the work compared with building a backend and admin panel from scratch. Once the scope is agreed, we can discuss a quote.

How do I choose an app development company?

Ask how the team will measure use and investigate crashes after release. Analytics and crash reporting belong in the first release: tools such as Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or Sentry show where people leave a task and which devices crash. Ask how the team will track returning users and the crash-free rate as the product changes.

What is included beyond the app screens?

The work also includes the backend and the tools your staff use. An app project commonly has the phone app, a backend for accounts and data, and an admin panel. The panel gives staff a place to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts without calling a developer.

Can a cross-platform app still use device features?

Yes. We build iOS and Android apps from a shared React Native codebase and use native modules where needed. That gives the project a way to include device-specific functionality while keeping the shared parts of the app in one codebase. The features you need should be part of the scope discussion.

Who owns the app code and content?

You do. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That ownership gives you control over those assets after launch and leaves you free to decide how the product is maintained. Keep the code and content together with the other materials your business needs to run the app.

What support is available after launch?

Ongoing support covers bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air with tools such as Expo EAS Update. Changes to native code, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release.
