Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform or native app?
For an app built around accounts, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical place to start. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules when a feature needs them. That gives you screens for both platforms without maintaining every part of the app separately.
Native development is worth considering when the product depends on deep device features, heavy graphics or complex background work. Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android give you separate codebases to build and maintain. Flutter is another cross-platform option; its Dart-based interface suits a heavily branded design when your team is comfortable working in Dart.
A progressive web app is also an option, particularly for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. We look at the device features and screens your product needs before choosing the build.
Market
What app users in Oman may expect
Shops and restaurants serving repeat customers need quick reordering, saved payment details and well-timed notifications. Appointment businesses such as clinics, salons and gyms need booking, reminders and a staff view of the day's schedule. We start with the task your customer or staff member needs to complete on their phone.
Arabic is the official language, and English is widely used in business and higher education, though less so outside Muscat. Agree which screens need each language before design starts. For payments, we check your provider's connection to the domestic OmanNet e-commerce gateway and design the checkout around the available integration.
Rules
What an app project in Oman has to handle
Marketing messages require the person's written consent. We set up a consent step and a record of the choice before advertising messages are sent. For push notifications, we also set up the sending service, the rules for who receives each message and in-app controls for switching off unwanted categories.
Processing sensitive personal data, including health or biometric data, requires a permit. If your app needs that information, we agree what the screens and backend will collect and set up those flows around the permit requirement.
How it runs
How a mobile app development project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 1h30m ahead, so we use the shared board to keep decisions and feedback visible between calls.
- 01
Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you so the work starts from a shared understanding of what the app needs to do.
- 02
Design
We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You get a chance to review the flow while it is still easy to change.
- 03
Prototype
Put the clickable screens in front of a few real customers or staff. Their feedback helps you spot a confusing step before it becomes built functionality.
- 04
Build and test
You try development builds on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Send us feedback from using the app, not just from looking at screen designs.
- 05
Submit
We handle listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain access to the accounts used for release.
- 06
Prepare for review
If the app has a login, provide a working demo account and keep the backend live. Leave room in the launch plan for fixes and resubmission.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
These decisions and materials make store preparation easier to discuss.
- Developer accountsRegister Apple and Google accounts in your company's name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number, so start that process early.
- Google Play testingA new personal developer account needs a closed test before production release. Plan for the required testers and opt-in period.
- Privacy policyPrepare a policy that matches the data the app collects. Apple requires a link in the store listing and inside the app.
- Account deletion on iPhoneIf people can create an account, plan an in-app way to start deleting it; a deactivation control alone is insufficient.
- Account deletion on Google PlayPlan an in-app deletion path and a web link where people can request deletion of the account and associated data.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of app development
The scope determines how much needs to be designed, built and tested.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share the same backend.
Integrations
Each payment gateway, map, booking system or device adds setup, testing and work to handle failures.
Screen design
Custom animation, additional languages, right-to-left scripts and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User-generated content
Posts or other submissions need moderation tools. Apple requires filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details for these apps.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with app development
Asking everyone to register first
Let people see useful parts of the app before sign-up when those parts do not need an account. Apple's guidelines ask for this when an app has no significant account-based features.
Requesting notification permission too early
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the person allows them.
Adding an analytics or advertising SDK without updating privacy answers: Check what each SDK collects and include it in the Google Play Data safety form. Review the form when the app changes.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Oman
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Building a backend and admin panel from scratch adds work, as does connecting the app to your existing systems. Deep device features can call for native development. Once we agree the scope, ask us for a quote.
How should I choose an app development company?
Ask who will design and build your app, and how you will speak to them during the work. With us, you talk directly to the people doing it. We have delivered more than 250 projects across websites, apps and AI products, so you can also ask about relevant work when discussing your scope.
What is included behind the app screens?
An app project usually includes the phone app, a backend and an admin panel. We build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, so accounts and data live in one place. Staff can use the admin panel to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds and block abusive accounts.
Will I own the app and be able to move it later?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain without lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business's name too. That makes it easier to move the app later without first recovering access from a freelancer or agency.
What support will the app need after launch?
Plan for maintenance releases. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, and outdated apps can become unavailable to new users on newer devices. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air; native code changes and new permissions still need a store release.
How will I know what to improve after launch?
Include analytics and crash reporting in the first release. Tools such as Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics show which screens people use, where they stop and which devices crash. Review how many people return and complete the main task, alongside the crash-free rate, when deciding what to improve.
