Choosing

Which platform should you build your store on?

Shopify is the simplest option to run when you want hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled for you. You can add features through apps, though their subscriptions add ongoing costs, and deeper checkout changes are limited to the Shopify Plus plan. WooCommerce suits a team already working in WordPress.

A custom or headless storefront, such as Next.js connected to a commerce back end, suits an unusual catalogue, a product configurator or a content-led brand. It takes more build effort, and most changes later need a developer. We recommend a platform after learning how your products and operations work, so the choice reflects what your team will need to manage.

You can also sell through a marketplace alongside your own store. A marketplace brings ready traffic but sets the rules and keeps the customer relationship. Your own store keeps customer data and margin, while leaving you responsible for attracting visitors. If you use both, plan how stock will stay in sync.

Market

What do online buyers in Oman need from your store?

Make it clear how customers can pay. OmanNet covers the domestic e-commerce payment gateway, so we check gateway and platform support when configuring checkout. Your registration and selling currencies also affect the choice: compare cards, wallets, bank transfers, pay-later and cash on delivery, along with settlement, refunds and disputes.

Customers must receive an invoice or purchase document in Arabic. We set up the document in Arabic, with other languages added where you need them. If you sell into several countries, decide the prices, currencies, tax display, duties, translated content and shipping options for each market before configuring the store.

Rules

What does an e-commerce project in Oman need to handle?

The standard VAT rate is 5%. Your tax decisions affect product prices and checkout, so we configure the applicable tax rules and price display in the store.

Written consent is required before sending advertising or marketing material. We set up a consent option for marketing sign-ups and keep that choice distinct from the messages needed to fulfil an order.

Consumers have 15 days from receipt to exchange or return a defective or non-conforming good for a refund, excluding perishable consumables. We set up a returns and refund policy page that reflects the applicable requirement and your actual process.

How it runs

How an e-commerce development project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. IST is 1h30m ahead, so the shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible between conversations.

  1. 01

    Discover

Tell us about your business, customers and goals. We agree the store scope with you before moving into design.

  2. 02

    Design and build

We prepare desktop and mobile designs for your feedback before coding. We then build the store and test it on real devices and browsers.

  3. 03

    Check the catalogue

We import a small sample first. You check titles, variants, prices and images; once the format is right, we import the full catalogue.

  4. 04

    Test orders

You place test orders across payment methods, shipping zones, discounts and tax cases. Check the stock, order emails and the order record in the admin for each case.

  5. 05

    Launch and care

We set up the domain, email, analytics and search, then provide ongoing support. Your team has a working store admin to use after launch.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring these details so we can understand the store and its daily operation.

  • Product photosKeep the original high-resolution files, with consistent backgrounds and proportions, several angles and an image for each colour variant.
  • PoliciesPrepare plain-language shipping, returns, refund, privacy and terms policies that match how you operate.
  • Gateway documentsGather business registration, bank and identity details. Apply early for the account in your business name; the provider decides on approval.
  • Tax and delivery decisionsCheck applicable taxes and price display with your accountant. Choose your couriers, delivery areas, charges and cash-on-delivery approach.
  • Account accessGather logins for your domain, DNS, existing site, email, analytics and Google accounts, held in your business name.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and time of e-commerce development?

The work involved depends on what is ready and what the store needs to do.

  • Product data

A clean spreadsheet is quicker to import than information scattered across an old store, supplier PDFs and photo threads.

  • Integrations

An order export to accounting takes less work than two-way stock and price synchronisation with an ERP or several marketplaces.

  • Migration

Moving customers, order history, reviews and gift cards adds scope beyond products. Existing customer passwords usually need a reset email.

  • Custom rules and markets

Delivery date pickers, wholesale tiers and customer-specific catalogues add work, as do markets with their own currency, language and tax setup.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with e-commerce development

  • Leaving delivery and tax charges until the final checkout step

Show estimates on product or cart pages so shoppers see likely costs before they reach the end.

  • Overloading product pages

Compress large images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where they are needed. Product pages carry much of the store's traffic.

  • Adding a plugin for every small feature

Each one can add scripts, admin clutter, conflicts or recurring fees. Review what each plugin does and remove those your team no longer uses.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Oman

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does an e-commerce website cost to develop?

There is no fixed price. The amount of work depends on your catalogue size, the variants you sell and custom product options such as engraving or bundles. We agree the scope with you before discussing a quote, so it reflects what the store needs to handle.

Can you connect the payment gateway we want to use?

We support Stripe, Razorpay, PayPal and local gateways, with availability depending on your country and platform. Once a gateway is chosen, we test paid, failed, cancelled and refunded orders, checking that the order record, stock level and customer email update correctly in each case.

What is included in the store build?

The build covers the store's working parts as well as the pages customers see. That includes customer accounts, policy pages and the admin your team uses. We also prepare order emails, including confirmations, dispatch messages with tracking links, refunds, abandoned carts and password resets, using your branding and policy wording.

Can you move our existing store to a new platform?

Yes. We can migrate products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it. Plan the old page addresses too: Google recommends permanent server-side redirects from each old product or category URL to its closest new page, including when a product is no longer sold.

Will we own the store after it is built?

You own your domain, content and code, so you are not locked to the team that built the store. Keep control of the sending domain as well. Order emails need SPF or DKIM authentication to reduce the risk of landing in spam.

What should we monitor after launch?

Compare conversion rate, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed with your figures from before launch or migration. Retest the full checkout after an app, plugin or theme change. Give each staff member a separate login with only the permissions they need.
