Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform, native or web app?
For an app centred on accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical place to start. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules when a feature needs them. That gives you both platforms without maintaining a completely separate app for each.
A native build fits a product that depends on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features as soon as they launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate Swift and Kotlin codebases. That choice affects the work that continues after the first release as well as the initial build.
A progressive web app is another option for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. We help you choose around the features people need and the platform work you are prepared to maintain.
Local
What Montreal businesses need from an app
Montreal has software engineering businesses and AI research organisations. A team launching a consumer product needs to decide what people will do in the app, cover both stores and measure whether users return after trying it.
For a Montreal transportation business whose customers already use a web platform frequently, an app can reuse the same accounts, data and backend. That gives existing customers a familiar account when they move from the website to their phone.
Montreal hosts cultural, film and music festivals. A shop or restaurant serving repeat customers during those events could use reordering, loyalty and saved payment details, with a fast checkout and notifications sent at a useful moment.
Rules
What a Canadian app project has to handle
Quebec has its own private-sector privacy law. When your app collects personal information, we map the account data and its intended use before setting up the relevant screens. For apps with account creation, we also build a route to start deletion inside the app and a web deletion request link for Google Play.
For checkout, Stripe lists Canada as a country where businesses can sign up to accept payments. We plan the payment setup around what you sell: Google Play billing is required for digital goods and subscriptions sold in the app, while physical goods and services use a different payment route.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Eastern Time, with the gap moving closer during daylight saving time. The shared board gives you a place to review work and leave feedback across that difference.

Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You help us agree which work belongs in the scope before design starts.
- 02
Design
We design screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can review the flows while they are still designs.
- 03
Check the prototype
Put the clickable prototype in front of a few customers or staff. Changing a screen at this stage costs less than changing it after the build.
- 04
Test on your phone
We share development builds through TestFlight on iPhone and Google Play testing tracks. You can use the app and tell us what needs attention.
- 05
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few decisions and account details make the first conversation more useful.
- List what users must do in the first release, in the order they will do it.
- List the website, booking, CRM or payment systems involved, their APIs and who holds admin access.
- Start registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- For a new personal Google Play account, plan a closed test with at least 12 opted-in testers for at least 14 days before production release.
- Decide which screens you want to measure and plan analytics and crash reporting for the first release.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of app development
The work changes with the people, systems and live features the app needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even if they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
Each payment gateway, map, booking system or hardware connection needs setup, testing and failure handling.
Backend
An existing system with a documented API reduces the build. A new backend and admin panel can involve as much work as the app itself.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development
Wrapping a website
An app shell around an existing site risks rejection. Plan features that give people a reason to install the app.
Forcing sign-up too soon
Let people see value before asking them to create an account when the app does not need significant account-based features.
Asking for notification permission immediately
Ask when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.
Leaving access with an agency
Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name so the app is easier to move.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. Two substantial drivers are offline editing with later synchronisation and user-generated content that needs moderation. The latter can require filtering, reporting and blocking features as well as published contact details. A quote needs an agreed scope so those requirements are clear before development.
Which company should I choose for app development?
Choose a team that can explain how your app will fit the systems you already use. Ask who will build and maintain the backend, and how your website and admin tools will access the same customer data. We build a shared backend for the app, website and admin tools when that fits the project.
Is Flutter an option for my app?
Flutter is an option when you want a heavily branded, custom-designed interface that looks identical across platforms. It draws its own interface and is written in Dart, so your team also needs to be willing to work in that language when maintaining or extending the app.
What is included when you build notifications and subscriptions?
We build push notifications and in-app purchases or subscriptions for both stores. Notifications also need a sending service, rules about who receives each message and when, and settings inside the app. Those settings let people switch off notification categories they do not want.
Will I own the app and its store accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Ask for those accounts to be established in your business’s name so the release stays under your control.
What happens after the app launches?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Regular maintenance releases also help keep the app available to new users on newer Android devices. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air, while native code or permission changes still need a store release.
