Choosing

Should you choose cross-platform, native or a web app?

For an app built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a practical place to start. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you shared code to maintain while allowing for platform-specific work.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs the same appearance on both platforms. Your team would need to be comfortable working in Dart. A fully native build is worth considering when the app depends on deep device features; that choice changes how much platform-specific development you need.

A progressive web app can suit a staff tool and avoids store review. It has trade-offs: it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them, and on an iPhone it can only request notification permission after someone adds it to their Home Screen. Bring the tasks your users need to complete, and we can discuss which route fits.

Local

What Minneapolis organisations need from an app

Financial organisations in a city that hosts the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis may already have customers using a web platform. For a service people use frequently, an app can reuse the existing accounts, data and backend, so customers do not have to start again with a separate account.

At an organisation such as the University of Minnesota, staff carrying out inspections could need forms, photos, signatures and a location for each job. Offline capture and a way to sync records when signal returns would give the office access to the work.

Arts organisations such as the Walker Art Center could use an app to send relevant updates to visitors. We set up a sending service, rules for who receives each message and in-app controls for switching notification categories off.

Rules

What a US mobile app project has to handle

For a state or local government app, the US Title II rule requires mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We set up the screen designs against that standard and review the app's forms and other user tasks with it in view. Tell us early if you are commissioning a government app, so the accessibility requirements are part of the design and testing work.

How it runs

How your app project runs with us

We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is ahead of the US, with the difference changing by season, so the board gives you a place to leave feedback and see what is moving between conversations.

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Tell us what people need to accomplish in the app.

  2. 02

    Design

We design screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can flag unclear steps while the flows are still being shaped.

  3. 03

    Test the prototype

Put the clickable design in front of customers or staff and watch where they hesitate. A screen is less costly to change at this stage than after it is built.

  4. 04

    Build and measure

We include analytics and crash reporting in the first release, so you can see screen use, drop-off and devices affected by crashes.

  5. 05

    Submit

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain control of those accounts.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring the intended user tasks and begin the account and policy preparation early.

  • First releaseList the tasks users must complete, in the order they will do them.
  • Developer accountsRegister Apple and Google accounts in your company's name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • Google Play testingNew personal developer accounts need a closed test before production release.
  • Privacy policyHave a policy that matches the data collected, ready to link from the app and its Apple listing.
  • Demo accessIf your app has a login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple review.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline

The work changes with the features, connections and screens you include.

  • Live features

Tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.

  • Integrations

A payment gateway, booking system or scanner needs setup, testing and a plan for handling failures.

  • Screen design

Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across the screens involved.

  • User content

Posts from users need moderation work. Apple requires filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details for these apps.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid

  • Wrapping the website

An app shell around an existing site risks Apple rejection. Give people a useful reason to install the app.

  • Asking for notifications immediately

Make the benefit clear first, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.

  • Adding tracking without updating disclosures

Include data collected by third-party analytics or advertising tools in Google Play's Data safety form.

  • Overlooking account deletion

If people can create an account, provide an in-app route to start deletion. Google Play also requires a web link for deletion requests.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Minneapolis

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price. The number of user roles and the offline work are significant drivers: customer and staff flows need separate screens and permissions, while offline editing needs syncing and conflict handling. We can discuss a quote once we have agreed the scope.

Which app development company should I choose?

Choose a team you can speak to directly about the work. Ask who will design and build the app, and how you will raise questions with those people as decisions come up. With us, you talk directly to the people designing and building your product.

What is included in a mobile app build?

Plan for the app, the backend and an admin panel. The panel gives your staff a place to edit content, look up customers, issue refunds or block abusive accounts without calling a developer. We also build push notifications for messages you want to send to users.

Will I own the app and its code?

You own your code and content, with no lock-in. Keep your developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business's name too. That gives you control of the materials needed to move the app if you decide to work with someone else later.

How do payments work inside an app?

The checkout depends on what you sell. Apple and Google generally require their in-app purchase or billing systems for digital content and subscriptions used in the app. Physical goods and services used outside the app need another payment route. We build in-app purchases and subscriptions for both stores.

What support does an app need after launch?

Plan for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. We provide ongoing support after launch, and regular Android maintenance releases help keep the app available to new users. You can also watch retention and crash-free rates to see where people leave a task or encounter problems.
