Choosing

Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?

A cross-platform app suits products centred on accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. React Native shares most of the code across iOS and Android, while using each platform’s own interface components. Some logic can also be shared with a React web app, and web developers can contribute. We generally recommend React Native for this kind of work; we go native when the app needs deep device features.

Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that needs screens to look identical on both platforms. Your development team will need to work in Dart, so consider who will maintain the app as well as how you want it to look.

A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, but it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to their Home Screen.

Local

What Kolkata organisations need from an app

Kolkata’s commercial activity includes shops and restaurants serving repeat customers. If that describes your business, an app can give people a route back to previous orders, loyalty details and saved payments. The checkout needs to be quick, and notifications need to arrive at a useful point.

The city also has an established technology sector. If your Kolkata business already runs a web platform that customers use frequently, an app can use the same accounts and data instead of asking those customers to start again.

Kolkata’s manufacturers have different needs when their staff work in the field. A job app can collect forms, photos, signatures and location information, then sync that information to the office when a connection returns.

Rules

What an app project in India has to handle

Payment design starts with what you sell. UPI supports person-to-merchant payments in India, so we set up a checkout that offers UPI where it fits the purchase. Digital content, features and subscriptions used inside an app need the relevant store’s in-app purchase or billing system. Physical goods and services used outside the app need a different payment route. We account for those choices when setting up payments on each platform.

How it runs

How an app project runs with us

We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. You can review the work and give feedback as it progresses.

  1. 01

    Design

We design screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Tell us where a task feels unclear or needs another step.

  2. 02

    Prototype

Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their feedback helps you change a screen while it is cheaper to do so.

  3. 03

    Test

You receive builds on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. Use them for real tasks and tell us what needs attention.

  4. 04

    Submit

We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You keep those accounts under your business’s control.

  5. 05

    Prepare for review

If your app has a login, provide a working demo account and a live backend for Apple’s review. Leave room in your launch plan for fixes and resubmission.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Bring the decisions and materials that will shape the first release.

  • TasksList what users must do, in the order they will do it.
  • AccountsStart registering Apple and Google developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation verification needs a D-U-N-S number.
  • TestingPlan a closed test if you are using a new personal Google Play developer account.
  • PrivacyHave a policy that matches the data your app collects, ready to link inside the app and in its Apple store listing.
  • DeletionIf users can create accounts, plan both an in-app deletion path and a web link for deletion requests.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and work involved

The scope of the app and its supporting tools determines how much work the project needs.

  • User roles

Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they use the same backend.

  • Existing systems

A documented backend API reduces work. A new backend and admin panel can be as large a piece of work as the app.

  • Offline work

Showing previously loaded data is less involved than letting people edit records offline and resolving conflicts when they sync.

  • User content

Content posted by users needs reporting, filtering and blocking tools, plus published contact details.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with app development

  • Putting sign-up first

Let people see what the app offers before asking them to create an account, where its features allow that. Apple expects access without login for apps without significant account-based features.

  • Asking for notifications too early

Request permission when the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications remain off until the user allows them.

  • Forgetting store privacy answers

Update Google Play’s Data safety form when you add an analytics or advertising SDK, so it covers data collected by that SDK.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Kolkata

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does it cost to develop an app?

There is no fixed price: the scope determines the work. Live tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and extra backend work. Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts also add design and testing across screens. Agree the first-release scope before asking for a quote.

Which company should I choose for app development?

Choose a team that can explain the full product and how you will operate it. Ask how staff will edit content, look up customers or block abusive accounts in the admin panel. Also ask how the first release will report screen usage and crashes, so you have evidence for changes after launch.

Can the app use the same backend as my website?

Yes. We build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, keeping customer accounts and data in one place. That also gives you a common foundation for the accounts, data and administrative tools behind the app, instead of treating each interface as a separate system.

Who owns the app and its accounts?

You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name too. When those are held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name, moving the app to another team later becomes harder.

How are push notifications set up?

We set up targeted push notifications along with the service used to send them. The work includes rules for who receives each message and when, plus settings inside the app so people can switch off categories they do not want. Decide which messages help users complete a task or return to it.

What happens after the app launches?

We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. After release, review how many people return, where they leave the main task and whether the crash-free rate has improved.
