Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
For an app centred on accounts, forms, bookings, maps, payments or content, a cross-platform build is worth considering. React Native and Flutter share most of their code across iOS and Android, so you have less platform-specific code to maintain. We usually use React Native and add native modules where a feature needs them. When the app needs deep device features, we go native.
React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. Your web developers can contribute, and an existing React web app may be able to share some logic with it. That makes the skills and systems you already have useful things to discuss before choosing a build.
Flutter uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design that should look identical across platforms. Your team needs to be comfortable working in Dart. We use the features you need, the design you want and the skills available to you to help choose an approach.
Local
What Kansas City organisations need from an app
Kansas City is home to the University of Kansas Hospital. For clinics and other appointment businesses, an app can bring booking, reminders and payments into the same flow, with a staff view of the day’s schedule.
The University of Kansas Medical Center and Kansas City Kansas Community College also serve the city. An organisation whose users already return frequently to a web platform can reuse those accounts and data in an app.
Manufacturing is represented by General Motors’ Fairfax Assembly Plant. For local businesses managing delivery, maintenance or inspection work, an app needs job forms, photos, signatures and location, with records synced to the office when a signal returns.
Rules
What a United States app project has to handle
For a state or local government app covered by the US accessibility rule, the screens need to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We set up the screen designs and flows with that standard in view, so accessibility is part of the build from the design stage.
Checkout depends on what you sell. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital features and subscriptions used in the app, while Google Play requires its billing for digital goods and subscriptions, with some regional alternatives. For physical goods and services, we set up a separate checkout; US businesses can sign up to accept payments with Stripe.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is ahead of the mainland US, so the board keeps decisions and feedback visible across the time difference, ready for each side to pick up.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You tell us what people need to do in the app, and we agree the scope with you before moving into design.
- 02
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android. You review the flows and give feedback while they are still designs, before code is written.
- 03
Test
We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight or a Google Play testing track. You can try the app in real use and share feedback with us.
- 04
Release
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You remain involved in the decisions about how the app is presented.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the following details so we can discuss a useful scope.
- First releaseList what users must do, in the order they will do it.
- Existing systemsNote the website, booking software or payment provider involved, their APIs and who has admin access.
- Privacy policyHave one that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the app and listing.
- Google Play accountAllow for closed testing if you use a new personal developer account.
- Review accessFor an app with login, prepare a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope determines how much design, integration and testing the work needs.
Integrations
Each payment gateway, booking system or hardware connection needs setup, testing and handling for failures.
Screen design
Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens.
User content
Posts from users need filtering, reporting, blocking and published contact details to meet Apple’s requirements.
Backend
A documented existing API reduces the work; a new backend and admin panel can be a substantial build in their own right.
Questions

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price for every app. Live tracking or chat adds persistent connections and backend work; offline editing adds sync and conflict handling. Push notifications also need a sending service, targeting rules and settings for the categories users want to receive. Agreeing the scope gives us a basis for a quote.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a developer who can explain what your app will let people do and how it will earn a place on their phone. Apple asks apps to offer more than a repackaged website. Also discuss whether people need to create an account before they can use the useful parts of your app.
Can the app use the same accounts as my website?
Yes. We can build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools, with customer accounts and data in one place. We also recommend analytics and crash reporting in the first release, so you can see which screens people use, where they leave and which devices crash.
Who owns the app and its accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. That makes the app easier to move later than if those assets are held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name.
What happens after the app launches?
Launch is followed by ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Plan maintenance releases: Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. For JavaScript or content fixes, an over-the-air update can sometimes avoid a store build; native changes still need a store release.
