Choosing
Should you choose cross-platform or native development?
React Native is our usual choice for apps on iOS and Android. It shares one codebase across both platforms, with native modules added when a feature needs them. This approach suits apps built around accounts, forms, bookings, maps, payments or content. You still need to design the screens for each platform and decide what the first release needs to do.
A native build uses Swift for iPhone and Kotlin for Android. It fits an app that relies on deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features at launch. The trade-off is maintaining separate codebases. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design when you want screens to look identical on both platforms.
Payment design also affects the choice of work. Digital content and subscriptions used in the app generally need the stores’ in-app payment systems; physical goods and services need another payment route. Some storefronts or regions allow alternatives, so the checkout needs to reflect what you sell and where.
Local
What Bournemouth businesses need from an app
Bournemouth attracts visitors for its coastline and nightlife. If you run an appointment business serving those visitors, the useful starting point is the booking flow: choosing an appointment, paying, receiving a reminder and giving staff a view of the day’s schedule. Those tasks shape the customer screens and the tools your staff use.
Financial services are also part of Bournemouth’s economy. If your business already has a web platform that customers use frequently, an app can reuse their existing accounts, data and backend. That gives you a starting point for deciding which repeated tasks belong on a phone, while keeping customer information in the existing system.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see project work across that difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the task you want customers or staff to complete.
- 02
Design
We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can check the flow before the build starts.
- 03
Test
We send test builds to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. You can use the app yourself and feed back on the experience.
- 04
Instrument
We include analytics and crash reporting in the first release, using tools such as Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics to see screen use, drop-off and device crashes.
- 05
Launch
We handle the store listings, submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain control of the accounts used to publish the app.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A short set of practical details will help us discuss the scope.
- First releaseList what users must do, in the order they would do it.
- Existing systemsNote your website, booking software and payment provider, whether each has an API and who has admin access.
- Developer accountsStart registering Apple and Google accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- TestersFor a new personal Google Play account, plan a closed test before production release.
- Login accessPlan a working demo account and live backend for Apple’s review if your app requires users to sign in.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The scope determines how much needs to be designed, built and maintained.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions, even when they share a backend.
Live features
Tracking or chat needs persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
User content
Posts or other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details.
Existing backend
A documented API can reduce the work; a new backend and admin panel can be as large a task as the app itself.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Bournemouth
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The integrations your app needs, the payment and subscription setup, and the testing and failure handling for those connections all affect the work. Tell us what the app needs to do and which systems it must connect to; once the scope is agreed, we send you a free quote.
Which company should I hire for app development?
Choose a developer who can explain how your app will give users a reason to install it and how the work will be maintained. Ask to see the proposed user flow. Apple expects more than a repackaged website, so a plan that merely wraps your site in an app shell carries a risk of rejection.
What should be included if my app has accounts?
Include account deletion in the build. Apple requires people who create an account to be able to start deleting it inside the app. Google Play also requires an in-app deletion path and a web link for deletion requests. If you add an analytics or advertising SDK, the store privacy answers must cover its data collection too.
Will I own the app and its store accounts?
Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name. That makes the app easier to move if you change developers. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts, so ask who will hold each form of access before work begins.
What happens after the app launches?
Plan for ongoing support, including bug fixes, updates for new iOS and Android versions, and new features. Google Play requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level. After release, check how often people return, where they leave the main task and the crash-free rate.
