Choosing
Should you choose a cross-platform or native app?
For an app built around accounts, forms, bookings, payments or content, a cross-platform build is a useful option. We usually use React Native, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android and adding native modules where a feature needs them. That gives you both platforms without maintaining a separate codebase for each. During discovery, we discuss the features you need before settling on the approach.
Native development suits deep device features, heavy graphics, complex background work or new platform features needed at launch. You take on separate codebases for iPhone and Android. Flutter is another cross-platform option; it suits highly customised interfaces and teams willing to work in Dart, with screens that can look identical across platforms.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, though it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to their Home Screen.
Local
What Bakersfield businesses need from an app
Agriculture and energy businesses in Bakersfield have field teams that need to record work away from the office. An app for maintenance or inspection can bring forms, photos, signatures and job locations into the same workflow, then sync the records when a connection returns. That gives staff a way to record work on site and send it back to the office.
Distribution and food-processing businesses in Bakersfield also need to consider the work behind the phone screen. Staff need a place to manage content, look up customers and handle account issues without calling a developer. We plan the backend and admin panel alongside the app, so those tasks have an owner and a usable interface.
Rules
What a US app project has to handle
For a state or local government app, the ADA Title II rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We plan those accessibility requirements into the screens and build, so they are part of the work from the design stage.
Checkout also depends on what you sell. Apple requires in-app purchase for digital content and subscriptions used in the app; physical goods and services used outside it need another payment method. We set up the appropriate checkout, including a card gateway where needed. Stripe accepts sign-ups from US businesses.
How it runs
How an app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is ahead of Pacific time, and the gap changes with daylight saving, so the shared board gives both sides a place to leave decisions and feedback for the next working period.
- 01
Design
We prepare screens for iOS and Android. You review and refine them with us before code is written.
- 02
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of customers or staff. Their feedback helps you change a screen before it has been built.
- 03
Build and test
We build the app and send test versions to your phone through TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks. You can respond to real use as development proceeds.
- 04
Launch
We prepare store listings and handle submission and review under your developer accounts. You retain those accounts for the app.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A few practical decisions give the first discussion a useful shape.
- List the actions users must complete in the first release, in the order they will do them.
- Start registering developer accounts in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- For a new personal Google Play account, plan for the required closed test before production release.
- Prepare a privacy policy that matches the data your app will collect, for the listing and the app itself.
- Keep developer accounts, signing access and code repositories in your business’s name.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The scope determines how much design, building and testing the project needs.
User roles
Customers, drivers and staff each need their own screens and permissions.
Integrations
Payment gateways, booking systems and hardware need setup, testing and ways to handle failures.
Backend and admin
An existing backend with a documented API saves work; a new backend and admin panel can be as substantial as the app.
Offline work
Showing previously loaded data is a smaller task than editing records offline and resolving conflicts when they sync.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Bakersfield
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price. Custom animation, additional languages and tablet layouts add design and testing across screens. An app with user-generated content also needs moderation features, including reporting and blocking. We discuss the scope with you so the work can be assessed before development starts.
How should I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that will take responsibility for design, development and launch, and ask how the app will connect to the rest of your business. Our team handles those stages, and we build a shared backend for your app, website and admin tools when they need to use the same accounts and data.
Can you add notifications and account deletion?
Yes. We build push notifications with a sending service, targeting rules and settings for notification categories. If your app lets people create accounts, we also provide an in-app route to start deletion. Google Play additionally requires a web link for deletion requests and deletion of associated data.
Who owns the app code and content?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. That gives you control of those assets after the app is built. Keep them accessible to your business so that decisions about future changes and who carries them out remain with you.
What support is available after launch?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Google Play also requires apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, so maintenance releases need planning. Some JavaScript and content fixes can go out over the air; native changes and new permissions still need a store release.
