Choosing
Should you choose Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom store?
Shopify suits you if you want hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled for you. You add features through apps, so check their recurring subscriptions when planning the store. Deeper checkout changes are limited to the Shopify Plus plan. If your checkout needs are straightforward, that trade-off may be easier to manage than looking after the underlying platform yourself.
WooCommerce suits a business already using WordPress, particularly when the store sits alongside a substantial amount of content. You get control over code, data and hosting, but someone must look after hosting, security, updates and compatibility between plugins. That responsibility should have an owner after launch, even if your team edits the catalogue day to day.
A custom storefront, such as Next.js connected to a commerce back end, fits an unusual catalogue, a product configurator or a content-led brand. It takes more build effort, and most later changes need a developer. We recommend an option after learning about your products and operations, including how much flexibility your checkout needs.
Local
What Maharashtra businesses need from an online store
Fashion and apparel are part of Maharashtra’s economy. A brand taking orders through social media or messages needs a catalogue, online payment and order tracking so staff do not have to manage every order by hand in chat. A retailer adding online sales to a physical shop also needs stock connected to its till system and a choice such as click and collect.
Maharashtra also has furniture, textile and machinery industries. A furniture maker selling made-to-order products might need customer choices beyond standard variants, with file uploads, previews or price rules. A machinery distributor selling to other businesses may need customer-specific prices, minimum quantities, quote requests and ordering on account. We plan those requirements around how each business takes and fulfils orders.
Rules
What an ecommerce project in India has to handle
Indian GST treatment differs between supplies within a state and supplies between states. That affects the tax rules at checkout. We configure the store’s tax settings around the products and supplies you sell, so those settings are part of the build and testing.
E-commerce entities must prominently display their legal name, principal geographic address, website details and customer-care and grievance-officer contact details. We include space for those details in the store’s pages; you supply the information for your business.
How it runs
How an ecommerce project runs with us
We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. You can review the work and share feedback without travelling to a studio.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, customers and goals. You explain how products are sold and orders are handled, and we agree the store’s scope together before design starts.
- 02
Design
We design product, collection and checkout pages for desktop and mobile. You review the screens and give feedback before we write code.
- 03
Build
We develop the agreed store using code or a CMS your team can edit, and test it on real devices and browsers. You review the work as it takes shape.
- 04
Test
Before launch, you place test orders across payment methods, shipping zones, discounts and tax cases. Check the stock levels, order emails and the way each order appears in the admin.
- 05
Launch and care
We set up the domain, email, analytics and search. Ongoing support follows launch, so your team has help after the store is live.

Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of ecommerce development
The scope and condition of your store inputs shape the work.
Catalogue complexity
Products with many variants, bundles, engraving or sales by weight need more setup than a straightforward catalogue.
Product data
A clean spreadsheet is quicker to import than details spread across an old store, supplier PDFs and chat threads.
Design approach
Adapting an existing theme involves less work than a custom design for unusual products or a distinct brand.
Migration scope
Moving customers, order history, reviews and gift cards alongside products adds work; customer passwords usually need a reset.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with ecommerce development
Late delivery charges
Show shipping and tax estimates on product or cart pages, so shoppers do not encounter surprise costs at the final checkout step.
Heavy product pages
Compress images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where they are needed.
Order emails landing in spam
Set up SPF or DKIM authentication for the sending domain.
Too many plugins
Review what each app or plugin does and remove unused ones to reduce scripts, admin clutter, conflicts and recurring fees.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Maharashtra
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does an ecommerce website cost to develop?
There is no fixed price. Custom checkout features and pricing rules, such as delivery-date selection or wholesale tiers, change the work involved. Selling into additional markets also adds decisions about currencies, tax display, translated content and shipping. Once we agree the scope, we send you a free quote.
Which payment gateway should I choose?
Choose a gateway that supports your business registration, selling currencies and preferred payment methods. We support Stripe, Razorpay, PayPal and local gateways according to the country and platform. Compare cards, wallets, bank transfers and other methods alongside settlement timing and the way refunds and disputes are handled.
What is included in the store build?
The build covers the catalogue, cart and checkout, customer accounts, policy pages and the admin your team uses. We test paid, failed, cancelled and refunded orders against stock, order records and customer emails. We also set up transactional emails with your branding, your domain as sender and wording that matches your policies.
Can you move my existing store to a new platform?
Yes. We can migrate products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it. Before the move, map each old product and category URL to its closest new page and set up permanent server-side redirects, including for products you no longer sell. That mapping needs to be part of the migration scope.
Who owns the store after launch?
You own your domain, content and code, without being locked to the team that built the store. An owned store also gives you control of customer data and margin, while you remain responsible for attracting visitors. If you also sell through a marketplace, stock can be synced between the channels.
What should my team do after launch?
Retest the full checkout after each app, plugin or theme change, and give staff separate logins with only the permissions they need. Measure conversion rate, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed against your figures from before launch or migration.
