What it does

Website hosting cost depends mostly on how much data your pages move each month. Enter your monthly visits, pages per visit and average page weight, set how much of that is served from cache, and the calculator estimates the gigabytes transferred. It then compares what that traffic typically costs on Vercel Hobby and Pro, shared hosting, a small VPS and Cloudflare Pages, and flags where you would exceed a plan's included bandwidth. All figures are typical ranges as of October 2026, not quotes.

How to use it

  1. Enter monthly visits and pages per visit from your analytics.
  2. Set the average page weight. Check a few pages in your browser's network panel; a lean marketing page is 500 KB to 1.5 MB.
  3. Adjust the cache share. 50% to 70% is usual for a site behind a CDN.
  4. Read the transfer estimate and the cost table, then copy the summary.

How to read the result

A site with 25,000 visits a month and 2.5 pages per visit serves 62,500 page views. At 1.5 MB per page that is about 89 GB before caching. With 60% of requests served from cache, roughly 36 GB actually leaves the origin each month.

At 36 GB, every host in the table fits. Cloudflare Pages shows 0 dollars with unlimited bandwidth for static files. Vercel Hobby shows 0 dollars inside its 100 GB limit, but only for non-commercial use. Vercel Pro is 20 dollars per seat with 1 TB included. Shared hosting runs 3 to 15 dollars and a VPS 6 to 24 dollars.

Raise the visits to 250,000 and the transfer becomes about 358 GB. Vercel Hobby now shows "Exceeds plan" in red, shared hosting shows an overage warning because its "unmetered" promise has a fair-use ceiling, and Vercel Pro and the VPS still fit with room to spare.

The table excludes domains, email, databases, serverless function usage and build minutes, which can matter more than bandwidth for an app.

Our website maintenance service includes hosting choice, migration and monitoring, so you pay for the right tier rather than the familiar one. To shrink the page weight that drives the bill, try the image compressor.

Questions

Frequently asked.

How much bandwidth does a website use per month?

Multiply visits by pages per visit by the average page weight. A site with 25,000 visits, 2.5 pages each and 1.5 MB pages moves about 89 GB before caching. Browser and CDN caches cut that by half or more, because repeat views do not fetch every image and script again.

Is free hosting good enough for a business site?

Sometimes. Cloudflare Pages is free for static sites with no bandwidth cap. Vercel's Hobby plan is free but its terms exclude commercial use, so a company site needs Pro. Free tiers also lack support and uptime commitments, which matters once the site brings in enquiries.

Why is a VPS cheaper than Vercel Pro for the same traffic?

You are paying for the labour instead. A VPS includes a lot of bandwidth for 6 to 24 dollars, but you manage the server, updates, backups, SSL and caching yourself. Vercel, Cloudflare and similar platforms charge more or meter bandwidth because they do that work for you.
