A Shopify fees calculator adds up what a store pays each month: the plan subscription plus the card processing fee on every order. Enter your average order value and monthly orders, pick a plan and a gateway, and it shows the per-order fee, the monthly total and the effective rate against revenue. A table compares all three plans at the same volume and marks the cheapest. It also works backwards, telling you what to charge per order to receive a fixed net amount. Rates were last checked October 2026; see Shopify's pricing page for the current figures.
How to use it
- Pick the plan you are on or considering, and whether you use Shopify Payments or a third-party gateway.
- Enter your average order value and the number of orders per month.
- If you use a third-party gateway, enter its own rate and fixed fee so the surcharge is added on top.
- Compare the three plans in the table and read the summary.
How to read the result
A store with a 60 dollar average order and 200 orders a month on the Basic plan pays 2.9% plus 30 cents per order. That is 2.04 per order, or 408 dollars in card fees, plus the 39 dollar plan, for 447 dollars a month. Revenue is 12,000, so the effective cost is 3.73% of sales.
On the Shopify plan the same orders cost 1.92 each, 384 in fees, plus 105 for the plan, so 489 a month. Advanced comes to 360 plus 399, which is 759. At this volume Basic wins and the table marks it as cheapest. The break-even with the Shopify plan is around 550 orders at this order value, which is useful to know as you grow.
Switch to "I want to receive X per order" with 60 as the target and the calculator says to charge 62.10 on Basic. The fee of 2.10 comes off and you keep 60.00.
The totals cover plan and card fees only. Apps, themes, shipping labels and Shopify Tax are extra, and so is the gateway's own fee if you use one.

With Shopify Payments on US online card rates, Basic charges 2.9% plus 30 cents, the Shopify plan 2.7% plus 30 cents, and Advanced 2.5% plus 30 cents. The monthly plan fee is 39, 105 and 399 dollars on monthly billing. Annual billing is cheaper. Rates last checked October 2026.
What is the third-party gateway surcharge?
If you use a gateway other than Shopify Payments, you pay that gateway's own fee and Shopify adds a surcharge of 2% on Basic, 1% on Shopify and 0.6% on Advanced. On most stores that makes a third-party gateway noticeably more expensive, so only use one if Shopify Payments is unavailable in your country.
When does the Shopify plan beat Basic?
When the saving on card fees outweighs the 66 dollar difference in plan cost. The saving is 0.2% of revenue, so the break-even is 33,000 dollars of monthly sales. At a 60 dollar average order that is 550 orders a month. Below that, Basic is cheaper.
