This converter changes every digit in a piece of text to the digit system you choose: Arabic-Indic (٠١٢٣٤٥٦٧٨٩), Eastern Arabic-Indic as used for Persian and Urdu (۰۱۲۳۴۵۶۷۸۹), or Western (0123456789). The rest of the text is left exactly as it is, so you can paste a whole paragraph, a price list or a table.
It can also convert the separators inside numbers: the decimal point becomes the Arabic decimal separator ٫ (U+066B), the thousands comma becomes ٬ (U+066C), and a percent sign after a number becomes ٪ (U+066A). Converting back to Western digits reverses all of these.
How to use it
- Paste your text. It can mix Arabic and English, and any of the three digit systems.
- Choose the digit system to convert everything to.
- Keep "Convert decimal point, thousands comma and %" on for prices and statistics. Turn it off for dates and codes.
- Keep "Leave digits touching Latin letters alone" on so product codes such as A4 or H2O are not changed.
- Copy or download the result.
How to read the result
"Characters changed" counts digits and separators that were rewritten. "Digits found" breaks the input down by system, which is a quick way to spot text pasted from different sources. A page that mixes Western and Arabic-Indic digits looks inconsistent, so pick one system per page.
Only separators between two digits are converted, so the full stop at the end of a sentence stays a full stop. Slashes, colons and dashes in dates and times are not changed. Arabic-Indic digits are still read left to right inside Arabic text, so 2026 becomes ٢٠٢٦ in the same order.
The digit reference table lists each digit with its Unicode code point, useful when a search or a database lookup fails because two strings look the same but use different digits. When numbers come from code rather than copy, format them at display time instead; the snippet under the table shows Intl.NumberFormat with the arab, arabext and latn numbering systems.
To count words and characters in the converted text, use the word counter. Choosing digit, date and number formats for every page of an Arabic site, and applying them consistently, is part of our Arabic and multilingual website work.
Questions
Frequently asked.
What is the difference between Arabic-Indic and Eastern Arabic-Indic digits?
They are two Unicode sets. Arabic-Indic digits (U+0660 to U+0669) are used across much of the Arab world. Eastern Arabic-Indic digits (U+06F0 to U+06F9) are used for Persian and Urdu, and the 4, 5 and 6 have different shapes. The two look alike in most fonts, but software treats them as different characters.
Can CSS or a font change the digits for me?
No. The digits are characters in the text, and a font only draws what is there. To show Arabic-Indic digits, change the characters, as this tool does, or format numbers in code with Intl.NumberFormat and a numbering system such as ar-u-nu-arab.
Should an Arabic website use Arabic-Indic or Western digits?
It depends on your audience and house style; both are used on Arabic websites. Whatever you choose, use it consistently, and keep Western digits in phone links, form fields, prices that feed a checkout, and anything a machine reads.
