WhatsApp chatbot development in India

A WhatsApp chatbot gives your customers a way to ask questions, place orders and make bookings in chat. For your business in India, we design the conversation around the questions you hear most, connect leads and orders to your systems, and build on the WhatsApp Business Platform. You work directly with the people building it.

Choosing

Should you choose menus or AI answers?

Start with the tasks customers bring to chat. Menus and buttons suit fixed requests such as checking an order, booking an appointment or finding opening hours. They keep choices clear. AI answers suit questions people phrase in many different ways, but your team will need to prepare source content, test the answers and agree where the AI should stop.

You also need to choose how to connect to the platform. You can build directly on Meta’s Cloud API or use a solution provider that adds billing, integration support and customer support. That choice affects what you manage yourself and what support you receive alongside messaging.

Choose the phone number early. Standard registration requires a number already used on WhatsApp to be deleted from WhatsApp before platform registration. There is also an option through a provider to connect a number used with the WhatsApp Business app to the Cloud API, keep replying to individuals in the app and keep chat history in sync. We can discuss which route fits how your staff already handle messages.

Market

What customers in India expect from chat

The useful starting point is the request your customer wants to complete. Retailers and online stores need order confirmations, delivery updates and answers to order-status questions. Restaurants and food businesses need to take orders and table bookings from people already messaging them.

Schools, colleges and training providers need to handle admissions and course enquiries and send class and fee reminders. Real estate and travel businesses need to capture leads from adverts, qualify them with a few questions and pass them to sales staff.

For an order flow, discuss how the customer will pay. UPI supports person-to-merchant payments; we build the order capture in chat and plan where the payment step fits.

Rules

What your payment setup needs to handle

If your order flow uses an online payment aggregator, check the provider before connecting it. Non-bank entities that aggregate customer payments for merchants must be authorised by the Reserve Bank of India. We plan the payment link integration around the provider you choose and check whether the relevant systems have usable APIs. That decision also affects the work needed to connect the payment step to the order flow.

How it runs

How a WhatsApp chatbot project runs with us

We work with you remotely through video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. Bring the people who handle customer messages into the discussion, so the build reflects the questions and handovers they deal with.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the scope with you. You help us identify the conversations and tasks the bot should handle.

  2. 02

    Set up messaging

We arrange the number, verification and message templates through an official provider. Business-started messages need an appropriate template category, so we draft and submit templates early for review.

  3. 03

    Design the chat

We map the choices customers need to make. Where a structured interaction is useful, WhatsApp Flows can present lead forms or product recommendations that customers tap through.

  4. 04

    Test with staff

Your staff run questions, orders and bookings through a test number. They check the handover to a person and confirm that leads and orders reach the connected systems.

  5. 05

    Plan the launch

New business portfolios face a limit on messages to unique users outside the customer service window. Business verification is one route to a higher limit, subject to Meta’s quality review.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Gather these details so we can discuss the chat flow and the setup with you.

  • A phone number your business owns, including its country and area code, that can receive a verification call or SMS.
  • The wording and collection points for message opt-in. The wording must say the person is opting in and name your business.
  • Your published privacy policy, alongside the notices and consents applicable law requires.
  • A list of what you sell, to check against restricted categories such as alcohol, healthcare products and gambling.
  • The questions your customers ask most, so we can turn them into conversations that are easy to follow.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and time to build your chatbot

The work changes with the information, connections and staff workflow you need the chat to support.

  • Answer method

Fixed menus need defined choices; AI over your content also needs content preparation, testing and limits.

  • Catalogue

The number of products and how often prices or stock change help determine whether product data needs an automatic sync.

  • Handover

An alert to staff is a different piece of work from a shared inbox with assignment, notes and reporting.

  • Connected systems

Sending leads and orders to a CRM, sheet or order system adds integration work to the conversation itself.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid with your chatbot

  • Messaging without opt-in

Collect confirmation that the person wants messages from your business. Unexpected messages can lead to blocks and reports that lower quality and trigger rate limits.

  • Missing opt-outs

Act on requests to stop messages, including requests made outside WhatsApp, and remove the person from your contact list.

  • Hiding human help

Give customers a prompt, clear escalation path, such as an in-chat transfer, phone number, email address or support form.

  • Putting offers in utility templates

Keep utility messages non-promotional. WhatsApp can recategorise a template as marketing when it contains promotional content.

Questions

Asked by businesses in India

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does a WhatsApp chatbot cost?

The quote depends on the agreed scope. Number setup and verification, the message templates you need, and the systems receiving leads and orders all affect the work. Share those requirements with us when we discuss the project, so the quote reflects the chatbot you need built.

Can the chatbot answer questions with AI?

Yes. We build AI answers from your own information and provide a handover to a person when needed. Meta’s platform terms distinguish AI used alongside a business’s own service from an AI assistant offered as the primary function; Meta decides which category applies.

Will my business get a blue checkmark?

A blue checkmark requires Official Business Account status, and Meta reviews each request. Requirements include a verified business portfolio, two-step verification, an approved display name and policy compliance. Meta can deny a request, so account status should be treated separately from the chatbot build.

Who owns the work after launch?

You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. That gives you ownership of those parts of the work after launch. Discuss any account and access arrangements during the project so the people responsible for your business can manage what they need.

What should we review after the chatbot launches?

Review unanswered questions and handovers, then add missing answers or flows. Track conversations started, resolved without staff and handed over, along with completed orders or bookings and opt-outs. Also watch template quality: messages with negative feedback or low read rates can be paused or disabled.

Will every opted-in customer receive our offers?

No. WhatsApp may limit the marketing templates a person receives from all businesses based on their recent engagement, so an opted-in customer will not necessarily receive every message. Plan campaigns with that limit in mind when deciding how to communicate an offer.
