Choosing
Should you manage website maintenance in-house or use a provider?
If you have a developer on staff, in-house maintenance can fit around their existing work. An outside provider suits a team where nobody has website care as their main job. Before choosing, identify who will take responsibility for updates, fixes and checks when other work competes for attention. That gives you a practical basis for deciding which tasks to keep and which to hand over.
Hosting is a separate decision. Managed hosting suits you if you want the maintainer to take responsibility for speed and uptime. Keeping hosting under your own management suits a business with an IT team and server policies. Either way, be clear about who manages the hosting and who has access to the account, so a hosting issue has an identified owner.
Your site's platform also affects the workload. A static or custom-coded site has no plugin layer to patch and generally needs fewer security updates than a plugin-based CMS site. It still needs dependency updates, renewal tracking and monitoring. A CMS with plugins brings a different update workload, so compare the care each setup needs before assigning it to an internal team or provider.
Market
What website owners in India need
A small or medium business without an in-house developer needs a named person to handle updates, backups and fixes. An online store needs attention at checkout, including payment and stock synchronisation checks, because a broken checkout can stop a customer completing a purchase.
A WordPress site with many plugins needs updates that are tested for security and compatibility. A marketing team, meanwhile, needs a practical route for adding campaign pages and job posts without starting a development project for each change. Tell us which parts of the site your own team edits and which requests need someone else to take them on.
How it runs
How website maintenance runs with us
We work remotely with clients over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. You can discuss the site with us and keep track of the work without needing to be in the same location.
- 01
Agree the scope
We learn about your business, audience and goals, then agree the work with you. Bring the problems you want addressed and the parts of the site your team needs help maintaining.
- 02
Review the site
If we did not build it, we begin with a review and fix anything urgent. The review records software versions, plugins, hosting, backups, domain expiry, user accounts and known problems, then ranks fixes by risk.
- 03
Arrange access
You hand over admin, hosting, domain and DNS access, and name the people who can request changes and approve work. This gives both sides a clear route for decisions.
- 04
Track requests
Use an agreed channel, such as email or a ticket board. Include the page link and the exact change; add screenshots where they help explain what you want.
- 05
Update and check
The update routine starts with a backup and a staging copy. We check key pages and forms before applying the same updates to the live site. Test submissions should also reach the intended inbox.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather what you already have so we can understand the site and its working arrangements.
- ConnectionsList your forms, CRM, payment gateway, booking tool, analytics and ad tracking, so the connected services are visible during the discussion.
- Known problemsNote past hacks, outages, broken forms and slow pages. Include rough dates if anyone remembers them.
- RenewalsGather the dates for your domain, SSL certificate, hosting and licences, or identify the accounts where they can be checked.
- Decisions and alertsName who approves changes and who should hear first if the site goes down.
- Security arrangementsHave your admin-account and two-factor login arrangements ready to discuss, along with any written plan for a compromised site.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing of website maintenance?
The work needed to take over and care for your site shapes the scope and the effort involved.
Plugins and integrations
Each plugin, integration and custom feature adds something to check after updates. A site with fewer moving parts has fewer checks to organise.
Condition at handover
An outdated, hacked or undocumented site needs clean-up before routine care can begin. The review helps identify that work.
Traffic and hosting
Busy sites and online stores need stronger hosting, caching and closer monitoring than a site with lighter demands.
Content requests
Text, images, pages, blog posts and job listings each need a clear request. The amount of content you want changed affects the work to agree.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with website maintenance
Leaving ownership unclear
Assign someone to keep track of the website. Otherwise renewals, broken forms and outdated plugins can be missed until a customer reports a problem.
Keeping untested backups beside the site
Keep a backup away from the site's server and test that it restores. A server failure or hack can affect copies held on that same server.
Leaving accounts with a former contact
Check that the domain and hosting are accessible to the business, instead of being held only in a former employee's or agency's personal account.
Putting off updates indefinitely
Plan for updates and testing. Delaying leaves known security holes open and makes the eventual catch-up update larger and more likely to cause problems.

Asked by businesses in India
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does website maintenance cost?
There is no fixed price. The platform affects the update and testing work, while your expectations for urgent or out-of-hours responses affect the cover needed. A plugin-heavy CMS generally needs more update work than a static or custom-coded site. Tell us about your platform and the response cover you need so those are included in the scope.
Should website updates be automatic or tested first?
Both approaches have a trade-off. Automatic updates close known security holes sooner, but they can also break a site without anyone noticing immediately. Manual updates tested on a staging copy take more effort and help catch conflicts before visitors see them. Choose the approach with the site's update risks and available maintenance effort in mind.
What content changes are included?
Content changes include edits to text and images, as well as new pages, blog posts and job listings. You can also request new project pages. When you send a request, describe the content you want changed and where it belongs on the site; that gives us something specific to work from.
Who owns the hosting account?
You own the hosting account, and we manage it on your behalf. That keeps the account with your business while giving us the access needed to manage hosting. Make sure the account is available to the people you authorise in your business, as well as to the person managing it for you.
What will I see in a maintenance report?
The report covers uptime, speed, traffic and a summary of changes. Use it to look for trends as well as completed work: rising load times, growing error counts or falling form submissions can point to a problem before a customer reports it. Bring any change you do not recognise to the maintenance discussion.
How do we keep track of renewals and account history?
Keep a written record of the accounts, renewal dates and changes made to the site. Domain registration, SSL certificates, hosting, premium plugin licences and email accounts all need their renewal dates tracked. A record also helps your business change providers without losing access or the history of what was done.
