Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site. Its choice of plugins gives you options for adding features, although those plugins and the site itself need regular updates to stay secure. Decide who will look after those updates before choosing it.
A custom Next.js site gives you a different route. We build it with clean code, and it can still include an editor for your team. The choice comes down to how you expect to work with the content, not a preference for a particular technology.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow can suit a small site that you want to run alone. You have less control over code and speed, though, and moving away later can mean rebuilding the site. Before recommending WordPress or Next.js, we look at how your team works and who will make changes.

What Erie organisations need from their websites
Erie has insurance and service industries. If you run a professional services practice, give each service and partner a clear page: prospective clients want to check expertise and credentials before they call.
Higher education is also represented in Erie, with organisations including Gannon University and Erie County Community College. An organisation with several audiences needs a considered sitemap and page structure, with clear ownership of the content and forms in the build.
For suppliers using the Port of Erie’s cargo facilities, capability or product pages can give buyers the detail they need. Include certifications, downloadable specifications and a quote form that asks enough for your team to respond properly.
Rules
Accessibility in a US website project
For a business open to the public, US guidance says the ADA covers the goods and services it offers on the web and points to WCAG as helpful guidance. We set up an accessibility target in the brief and use it to guide the page design. Agree that target before design starts, so your feedback and the project scope refer to the same standard. The W3C encourages use of the latest WCAG version.
How it runs
How the project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. The shared board keeps feedback and project work visible across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do on the site. We agree the scope around your business, audience and goals.
- 02
Wireframe
We put the page content in order before visual design. Your feedback at this stage focuses on priorities and what belongs on each page.
- 03
Design
We prepare page designs for desktop and mobile and refine them with your feedback. You can review the layouts before they become the finished site.
- 04
Check
Before launch, proofread every page, submit each form and confirm who receives its messages. This catches small errors that visitors would otherwise see.
- 05
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the setup so you know where to find it.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have, and note what still needs to be gathered.
- Your goal for the site and who handles each type of enquiry.
- Logo files, brand colours and fonts, or a note that they need creating.
- Case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and relevant credentials in a folder.
- Account details for the domain, hosting, email and measurement tools, or the name of their holder.
- Sites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
- Real photos of your team, premises and finished work; book photography ahead if needed.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing
The scope and the material you have ready shape the work.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need separate design and build work. Pages sharing a template take less effort than pages with individual designs.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller. Adding copywriting, photography or translation makes it larger.
Brand
An existing logo and style guide reduce design effort compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.
Content setup
A separate editor paired with a custom front end suits heavy editing, but adds parts to host and maintain.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Erie
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. Features such as booking, calculators or a CRM connection add design, build and testing work. Gathering service descriptions, case studies and photos also affects the scope, while including search setup in the build takes less effort than fixing it later.
Should I use a template or a custom design?
A template can fit a simple site with a tight brief, provided it is reworked around your actual content. A custom design fits when your brand, content or audience needs something specific. Decide what the pages need to communicate before choosing the visual approach.
Will I own my website?
Yes. You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Your business should also hold the domain and hosting accounts in its own name and grant access to the people working on the site. That keeps control of those accounts with you.
What can my team update after launch?
Your team can use the content editor for pages, news, projects and careers without training. Agree who will keep those sections current. In analytics, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then check which pages those enquiries started from.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Use real headings and paragraphs during design: placeholder text can leave a layout that no longer fits once the finished content is added.
