Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Start with the editing work. WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants control over most of the site. Its plugins offer a wide choice of features, though someone needs to keep them updated. If your team wants a design without template limits and is happy for a developer to handle structural changes, a custom-coded site in Next.js is another option.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site you want to run alone. You give up some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. For a simple site with a tight brief, an adapted template can also work, provided its layouts are reworked around your actual content.
A custom site can still have an editor. We ask how your team works and how often you expect to change content before recommending WordPress or Next.js.
Local
What Chesapeake organisations need from a website
Chesapeake has waterfront industrial and commercial property. A manufacturer or supplier presenting its capabilities there needs product or capability pages, certifications and downloadable specifications. A quote form should ask for enough detail for the person receiving it to respond properly.
Dollar Tree’s international headquarters is in Chesapeake. A corporate headquarters site needs a clear sitemap and page designs that help visitors find their way through the information on desktop and mobile, with space for feedback before the build.
Chesapeake City Public Schools is the local school district. Its enquiry route needs careful planning: decide where a form sends messages, who receives them and what confirmation a visitor sees after submitting it.
Rules
Accessibility in a United States website project
For state and local government websites, we set WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the accessibility target in the brief and design pages around it. For businesses open to the public, ADA Title III covers services offered on the web, and WCAG provides helpful guidance. We agree an accessibility target with you before page design starts, so the target is part of the work from the outset.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter, so the shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see work as it moves forward.
- 01
Discover
You explain who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do on the site. We use those answers to shape the sitemap.
- 02
Design
We prepare wireframes and page designs for desktop and mobile. You review them and give feedback before they are refined.
- 03
Build
We develop the site in clean code or a CMS your team can edit, then test it on real devices and browsers.
- 04
Review
You proofread every page, submit each form and confirm who receives its messages. Review the pages on a phone as well as a large screen.
- 05
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the site.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Start with a clear goal, such as quote requests or calls, and identify who handles each enquiry.
- Brand filesGather your logo in SVG, AI or EPS format, plus your colours and fonts.
- Services and productsList them in order of importance to your business.
- PhotosCollect images of your team, premises and finished work.
- Proof of workPut case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and certifications in one folder.
- ExamplesBring websites you like and dislike, with a short reason for each choice.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The scope determines the design, build and checking work.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need more design and build work than pages that share a template.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins and CRM connections add design, development and testing work.
Existing content
Moving news archives, blog posts and downloads adds migration and checking work.
Brand readiness
An agreed logo, colours and typefaces reduce the design work needed before pages can be developed.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Chesapeake
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The work depends on how much content you need to gather and whether the site needs a separate custom front end and content editor. A headless setup has more moving parts to host and maintain. Once we agree the scope, we send you a free quote.
Is it still worth investing in website development?
It can be worthwhile when the site helps visitors find the services they need and gives your team a manageable way to present them. Keep the page list purposeful: clear service pages are easier to scan and maintain than a copy of every page on an old or competing site.
Can you work with our existing brand?
Yes. We use your existing logo, colours and fonts and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Bring the actual headings and paragraphs for your pages too: layouts designed around placeholder text can break when the real content turns out to be a different length.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Keep the domain and hosting accounts in your business’s name and grant access to the people working on the site. That gives your business control of the accounts instead of leaving you to request access to your own site.
What should we manage after launch?
Decide who will update news, projects and job posts, and track the enquiries the site receives. In analytics, you can measure form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions and check which pages visitors started from. That gives your team useful information for reviewing the site.
