Choosing
Should you choose WordPress, a custom site or a hosted builder?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its plugins give you a wide choice of features, but someone needs to keep the installation updated for security. A custom Next.js site is faster and more secure, and can still have an editor. We recommend an approach after learning how your team works.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site that an owner wants to run alone. The trade-off is less control over code and speed. Moving away from the platform later can mean rebuilding the site, so consider who will maintain it and how much control you want over its development.
A headless setup pairs a custom front end with a separate content editor. It fits a site that needs speed and substantial editing, but it also introduces more parts to host and maintain. Ask who will look after those parts before choosing this route.

What Charlotte organisations need from their websites
Charlotte’s banking and financial services companies need to make expertise easy to check. Service pages and profiles for the people behind them give a prospective client a clear route from understanding an offer to making contact.
For energy-sector suppliers, capability and product pages give buyers something concrete to assess. Certifications, downloadable specifications and a quote form that asks for the details needed to respond help a visitor take the next step.
Museums and performing arts venues in Charlotte also need a clear way to handle enquiries. Decide which inbox receives each form, what its confirmation says and whether visitors should see a click-to-call button on mobile.
Rules
What a United States website project needs to handle
For businesses open to the public, US guidance says the ADA covers goods and services offered on the web and points to WCAG as helpful guidance. We use that guidance when planning page layouts and forms, and set up a clear heading structure for the content.
If you send commercial email, including to other businesses, it needs a valid physical postal address and a clear opt-out. We set up those details in the email template; your team also needs to handle opt-out requests.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter, and the difference is 1 hour less during daylight saving time. Shared boards give you a place to leave feedback for the team across that time difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you before design starts.
- 02
Plan
Explain who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do. We use those answers to shape the sitemap.
- 03
Design
We start with wireframes. Review the content and its order at this stage; visual details follow once the page priorities are clear.
- 04
Build
We develop the site in Next.js or WordPress, with the choice guided by your editing needs.
- 05
Check and launch
Proofread each page, submit each form and confirm its recipient. We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
A little preparation gives us useful material to discuss.
- Rank the services or products you most want to feature.
- Choose a goal, such as quote requests or calls, and name the person who handles each enquiry.
- Gather case studies, testimonials and client logos you have permission to show.
- Collect real photos of your team, premises and finished work.
- Note a few sites you like or dislike, with a reason for each choice.
- Find the login details for your domain, hosting, email and analytics, or identify who holds them.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of a website?
The work involved depends on what needs to be designed, supplied and moved.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need separate design and build work; pages sharing a template need less.
Content readiness
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller than adding copywriting, photography or translation.
Migration
Blog posts, news archives and downloadable files from an old site add moving and checking work.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide reduce the design decisions needed compared with a brand still being developed.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when planning your website
Choosing a platform too early
First decide who will update the site and how often. Let those needs guide the choice.
Leaving content until the end
Use real headings and paragraphs during design, so layouts fit the words you intend to publish.
Copying every existing page
Keep the pages that serve a clear purpose. A shorter site is easier to scan and maintain.
Approving only on desktop
Review each page on a phone before signing off the design.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Charlotte
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. A custom design for a specific brand or audience takes a different brief from an adapted template for a simple site. The service descriptions, team bios, case studies and photos you need to gather also affect the work. We agree the scope with you before proceeding.
Is a business website still worth building?
A website gives you a place to turn visits into enquiries you can measure. Set up form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions in analytics, then check which pages visitors started from. That gives you something specific to review when deciding what to improve after launch.
What is included in the website build?
The build includes a content editor and search setup. Your team can use the editor for pages, news, projects and careers without training. We also include metadata, structured data, sitemaps and fast load times across the pages, so those elements are part of the build from the outset.
Can you use our existing branding?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Bring the materials your team already uses so we can see how they should carry through to the website and identify any assets that need preparing.
Will we own the website after launch?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep the domain and hosting accounts in your business’s name and grant access to the people working on the site. That way, you retain control of the accounts as well as the website itself.
What support is available after launch?
We offer ongoing support after launch. Your team should also decide who will keep news, projects and job posts current: an old post left as the newest item can make visitors wonder whether the business is still trading. Agreeing that responsibility makes the handover more useful.
