Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its choice of plugins gives you options for extending the site, although the installation needs regular updates to stay secure. Think about who will own those updates as well as who will publish the content.
A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a design with specific requirements and a business that wants fast pages and tight security. A developer generally handles structural changes. A headless setup adds a separate content editor to a custom front end, which suits heavy editing but adds components to host and maintain.
The choice starts with your team. Tell us how often you expect to publish, who will make changes and what control they need. We recommend WordPress or Next.js after understanding how you work, so the editing and maintenance arrangements are part of the decision from the outset.
Local
What Charleston businesses need from a website
Charleston’s economy includes port and logistics activity. A supplier serving other businesses needs capability or product pages, certifications and downloadable specifications, with a quote form that asks for enough detail to respond.
Aerospace has a strong presence in Charleston. For an engineering firm showing work in that sector, a project portfolio with photos and project details gives prospective clients something concrete to assess.
Charleston also has higher education institutions, including the College of Charleston and The Citadel. An institution planning a site needs to assign owners for its page structure, content and launch, and decide where enquiries go and who receives them.
Rules
Accessibility in a United States website build
For a business open to the public, the ADA covers goods and services offered on the web, and WCAG provides guidance for accessibility. We agree an accessibility target in the brief and use it to guide page and form design. For a state or local government website, the applicable rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA; we set that target in the brief and use it to guide the build.
How it runs
How your website project runs with us
We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m ahead of Eastern time in winter and 1 hour less during daylight saving time; the shared board keeps decisions and feedback visible across that difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We agree the scope with you before moving into the page work.
- 02
Plan
Explain who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do on the site. We use those answers to shape the sitemap.
- 03
Design
We prepare wireframes before the visual design. Review what belongs on each page and its order first; colours come later.
- 04
Build
We develop the site in clean code or use a content management system your team can edit, then test it on real devices and browsers.
- 05
Launch
We set up your domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Start with a clear goal for the site and name the person who handles each kind of enquiry.
- List your services or products in order of business priority.
- Gather vector logo files, brand colours and fonts, or note what still needs creating.
- Choose sites you like and dislike, with a reason for each choice.
- Find account logins for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or identify who holds them.
- Put case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and certifications in a folder.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and work involved
The scope of the work determines how much design, development and preparation is needed.
Page templates
Distinct layouts take more design and build effort than pages sharing a template.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, languages or a CRM connection add design, build and testing work.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish reduce the work compared with adding writing, photography or translation.
Brand
An existing logo and style guide reduce design effort compared with deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Charleston
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The work depends on whether you need a custom design and how much content still needs to be gathered or written. Decide who will provide service descriptions, team bios, case studies and photos, then agree the scope before requesting a quote.
Can my team edit the website?
Yes. We provide an editor for pages, news, projects and careers that your team can use without training. WordPress suits teams that edit a lot of their own content; a custom Next.js site can also include an editor. We recommend an option after understanding how your team works.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Bring the files and the choices your team already uses so they can inform the page designs, and let us know which assets still need preparing.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Your business should also hold the domain and hosting accounts in its own name and grant access to the people working on the site. That keeps you in control of those accounts after the build.
What search setup is included?
We prepare page titles and descriptions, a clear heading structure, an XML sitemap and structured data. We also build for fast pages. Search setup belongs in the build: a missing sitemap, missing titles or an indexing block left over from development can keep a new site out of search results.
