Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Choose WordPress when your team publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. It offers a large choice of plugins, though someone needs to keep it updated for security. A custom-coded site in Next.js suits a design with specific requirements and gives you control beyond template limits. Your team should be comfortable asking a developer to make structural changes.
A hosted builder suits a small site that you want to run alone. You trade some control over code and speed, and moving away later can mean rebuilding. An adapted template can suit a simple brief if it is reworked around your actual content. For a brand or audience with specific needs, custom design gives you more flexibility. We recommend an approach after understanding how your team works and how much it expects to edit.
Local
What Anchorage organisations need from a website
Transportation and tourism are among the local sectors. For a company in either field, a visitor needs to find the relevant service and know how to make contact. We set up contact and quote forms for the right inbox, alongside WhatsApp and click-to-call options.
Native regional corporations based in the city that serve business customers can use capability or product pages to explain what they offer. Certifications, downloadable specifications and a quote form with enough detail to respond help a prospective buyer take the next step.
Higher-education facilities also need a clear route for enquiries. Decide who receives each type of message, what the form confirmation says and whether a visitor on a phone should see a click-to-call button.
Rules
What a US website project has to handle
For a business open to the public, access to its services on the web needs attention in the page design. US Department of Justice guidance says ADA Title III covers those services and identifies WCAG as helpful guidance, without setting detailed web standards. We use that guidance when setting up your page designs for desktop and mobile, so access is considered while the pages are being designed.
How it runs
How your website project runs with us
We work remotely from India using video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 14h30m ahead of Alaska, or 13h30m in summer. The shared board gives you a place to leave feedback and see project work across that difference.

Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have so we can learn about your goals and agree the scope together.
- Brand filesYour vector logo, colours and fonts, or a note that they still need creating.
- PrioritiesA ranked list of the services or products you want to feature.
- ReferencesSites you like and dislike, with a line on what works or does not.
- PhotosImages of your team, premises and finished work.
- Site goalThe action you want visitors to take and who handles each enquiry.
- ProofCase studies, permitted client logos, testimonials, certifications and memberships in a folder.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline?
The scope determines the design, build and checking work involved.
Page templates
Distinct layouts take more design and build work than pages that share a template.
Content readiness
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; adding copywriting, photography or translation makes it bigger.
Existing content
Blog posts, news archives and downloadable files moving from an old site need migration and checking.
Brand readiness
An existing logo and style guide need less design work than deciding the logo, colours and typefaces during the project.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Anchorage
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The work changes with the need for a custom design, the content that has to be gathered and whether the site needs a separate editor alongside a custom front end. Decide who will write the service descriptions and provide photos early, then ask us for a quote once the scope is agreed.
Can we have a custom website that our team can edit?
Yes. We build in Next.js and can include an editor for your team. We also use WordPress when full editing control is the priority. The editor can cover pages, news, projects and careers, so consider which of those your team will maintain before choosing the build.
Is search setup included in the website build?
Yes. Search setup includes page titles and descriptions, a clear heading structure, an XML sitemap and structured data. Leaving these until after launch creates extra fixes; an indexing block left on from development can also keep a new site out of search results.
Will we own our website?
Yes. You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Your business should also hold the domain and hosting accounts in its own name and grant access to the people working on the site. That keeps control of those accounts with you.
What should we do after the site launches?
Assign someone to keep the content current and review the enquiries coming through. In analytics, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, then check which pages visitors started from. Give someone responsibility for updating news, projects and job posts too.
