Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform, native or web app?
A cross-platform app is a practical starting point for accounts, forms, bookings, payments and content. We usually use React Native to share a codebase across iOS and Android. That gives you both platforms without building every screen separately. When your app needs deep device features, we choose native development instead. The decision starts with what people must do on their phones, including any device features that the main task depends on.
Flutter is another cross-platform option. It draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded app where you want screens to look identical across platforms. It uses Dart, so consider whether your future development team is prepared to work in that language. The visual control is useful when the interface itself needs substantial custom design.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It skips store review, although it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after someone adds it to the Home Screen. We handle design, development and launch as one team, so the choice can be carried through the work.
Local
What Muscat's businesses need from an app
Trade is a major part of Muscat's economy. For a shop or restaurant serving repeat customers, an app can bring reordering and loyalty into one place. Plan the checkout around a quick repeat purchase, then decide which notifications are useful after an order.
Businesses working around Mina'a Sultan Qaboos may have delivery or inspection staff away from the office. For those teams, job forms need to hold photos, signatures and location details, then sync them back when a connection returns. Start by identifying which parts of a job must still work without a signal.
Students at Sultan Qaboos University and office commuters at Knowledge Oasis Muscat are among the people served by the city's bus route. An organisation already serving users through a web platform can consider an app when use is frequent. Shared accounts and data keep the app and website connected, while an admin panel gives staff a place to look up customers and manage content.
Rules
What an app project in Oman has to handle
Arabic is Oman's official language, and English is widely spoken in business. If your users need both, we set up the screens for each language and test the right-to-left layouts. Allow for that work across the app: a change to a screen needs checking in both layouts.
Oman's personal data rules require written consent before advertising or marketing material is sent. If your app will collect that consent, we set up the consent wording and a record of the user's choice as part of the flow, so the sending process has a choice to refer to.
How it runs
How a mobile app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 1h30m ahead of Oman. We use the shared board to keep feedback and decisions visible between calls.
- 01
Design
We prepare iOS and Android screens and refine them with your feedback before writing code. You can check that the main task follows the order your customers expect.
- 02
Prototype
Put the clickable design in front of a few customers or staff. Their reactions can expose a confusing step while changing the screen is still cheaper than changing a built app.
- 03
Test builds
Try the app on your own phone during development. We use TestFlight for iPhone and the internal or closed testing tracks on Google Play, so you can give feedback from actual use.
- 04
Store submission
We handle the listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. You retain those accounts as the place where the app is published.
- 05
Review and fixes
If the app has a login, have a working demo account and live backend ready for Apple. Leave room in your launch plan to fix an incomplete or crashing submission and send it again.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have, and use this list to identify the next decisions.
- First-release tasksList what users must do, in the order they will do it.
- Developer accountsStart registering Apple and Google accounts in your company's name. Organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number for verification.
- Privacy policyPrepare a policy that matches the data the app collects; Apple requires a link in the listing and inside the app.
- Google Play testingIf you plan to use a new personal developer account, prepare for the required closed test with at least 12 testers, opted in for at least 14 days.
- MeasurementDecide which screens and drop-off points you want to watch, and include analytics and crash reporting in the first release.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline
The work grows with the behaviour and connections you ask the app to support.
Real-time activity
Live tracking, chat and presence need persistent connections and more backend work than screens that load data on request.
Integrations
A payment gateway, maps, booking system or hardware connection each needs setup, testing and a plan for failures.
User content
Posts or other user-generated material add moderation work. Apple requires filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details for these apps.
Payment type
Digital content and subscriptions require store billing under the stated store rules; physical goods and services need another payment route. The checkout must be built around what you sell.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with mobile app development
Putting sign-up before the value
Let people explore without logging in when the app does not have significant account-based features. Apple asks for this, and it avoids putting a registration step in front of every new user.
Asking for notifications immediately
Wait until the benefit is clear, such as after an order. On Android 13 and later, notifications stay off until the user allows them.
Adding a tracking tool without updating privacy details
Check the data collected by any analytics or advertising SDK against the Google Play Data safety form, including when you add an SDK later.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Muscat
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to develop an app?
There is no fixed price. The number of user types changes the screens and permissions, while offline editing and later synchronisation need more work than showing the last loaded data. Agree the first-release scope before requesting a quote, including who uses the app and what they need to do without a connection.
How do I choose an app development company?
Choose a team that will leave your business in control of the app. Ask whose name will hold the developer accounts and code repository, and how signing access will be handed over. Accounts held by an agency or freelancer can make the app difficult to move when you want to change suppliers.
Can web developers work on a React Native app?
Yes. React Native is written in JavaScript or TypeScript, so web developers can contribute. It renders each platform's own interface components, and some logic can be shared with a React web app. That is useful to discuss if your existing web team expects to work on the product later.
What is involved in sending push notifications?
Notifications need more than a message on a screen. We set up a sending service, rules for who receives each message and when, and in-app settings where people can turn off categories they do not want. Decide which events genuinely warrant a message before adding them to the first release.
Will I own the app and its store accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We handle store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Keep those accounts in your business's control so your app remains associated with your organisation when it is published.
What happens after the app launches?
We provide ongoing support for bug fixes, operating system updates and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air; native code changes and new permissions still need a store release. Watch returning users, task drop-off and the crash-free rate to assess subsequent releases.
