Choosing
Should you build a cross-platform app or go native?
A cross-platform app shares most of its code across iOS and Android. It is a practical option when the main tasks involve accounts, forms, lists, maps, bookings, payments or content. We usually use React Native, adding native modules where a feature needs them. When an app needs deep device features, we go native instead; the decision turns on what those features need to do.
React Native uses JavaScript or TypeScript and renders each platform’s own interface components. Your web developers can contribute, and a React website may share some logic with the app. Flutter is another cross-platform option: it uses Dart and draws its own interface, which suits a heavily branded design where you want screens to look identical across platforms and are prepared to work in Dart.
A progressive web app is worth considering for a staff tool. It avoids store review, although it will not appear in the app stores unless packaged for them. On an iPhone, it can ask to send notifications only after the user adds it to the Home Screen. Check those limits against the way your staff will open and use the tool.
Market
What customers in Malaysia may expect from your app
Payment choice affects checkout. FPX lets an online business accept payments directly from customers’ bank accounts through internet banking. DuitNow QR gives a merchant a single QR code that customers can use with participating banks or e-wallets. We set up the checkout around the payment methods you choose and plan the screens customers need to complete a payment.
Discuss screen language early. Malay is the national language, while Malaysian English is widely used in business. Decide which language your customers need for tasks such as booking, account creation and checkout, then give us the wording for those screens so the flow stays clear.
Rules
What a mobile app project in Malaysia has to handle
Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act applies to personal data processed in commercial transactions. If your app collects customer details, tell us what you need to collect and who will use it. We set up the account screens and admin tools around that data, so the collection and handling of personal information are part of the build plan.
Account deletion needs a place in the design. Apple requires an in-app way to start deletion when users can create an account; Google Play also requires a way to delete associated data and a web link for deletion requests. We set up those paths in the app and plan the linked web request.
How it runs
How your app project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India time is 2h30m behind Malaysia, so we use the shared board and messages to keep decisions and feedback visible between calls.
- 01
Discover
Tell us about your business, audience and goals. We use that discussion to agree the scope with you, including the tasks the app needs to support.
- 02
Design
We design screens for iOS and Android and refine them with your feedback before writing code. Review the flows as a user would, from the first screen through the task they came to complete.
- 03
Test on your phone
During development, you receive test builds through TestFlight on iPhone or Google Play’s internal or closed testing tracks. Use them in real situations and send us specific feedback.
- 04
Prepare submission
If the app has a login, provide a working demo account and a live backend for Apple’s review. Leave room in the launch plan for fixing and resubmitting an incomplete or crashing build.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring the information below so we can discuss the build in practical terms.
- Developer accountsStart Apple and Google registration in your company’s name; organisation accounts need a D-U-N-S number.
- TestersIf you are opening a new personal Google Play developer account, identify at least 12 people for its required closed test.
- Privacy policyHave a policy that matches the data the app collects, ready to link inside the app and in its Apple store listing.
- Prototype reviewersIdentify a few customers or staff who can try the clickable design. Screen changes are cheaper before the build.
- System accessList your website, CRM, booking or ERP software and payment provider, including API availability and who holds admin access.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time needed for your app
The work grows with the behaviour and connections you ask the app to support.
Offline work
Showing previously loaded data without signal is modest work; creating and editing offline records requires later syncing and conflict handling.
User content
Posts and other user-generated material need filtering, reporting, user blocking and published contact details for Apple’s requirements.
Integrations
Payment gateways, maps, booking systems and hardware each need setup, testing and a plan for failures.
Notifications
You need a sending service, rules for who receives each message and when, plus settings for switching categories off.
Digital purchases
Google Play billing requirements affect the checkout for digital goods and subscriptions, while physical goods and services use a different payment route.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when developing an app
Wrapping a website in an app shell
Apple expects more than a repackaged site. Define the useful tasks the app will offer before planning the store submission.
Putting sign-up before value
Give people access without logging in when the app has no significant account-based features. Apple’s guidelines ask for this, and forced registration can lose users.
Adding an SDK without revisiting privacy answers
If you add analytics or advertising software, update Google Play’s Data safety form to cover the data that software collects.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Malaysia
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an app developed?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include the number of user roles and their separate screens, real-time features such as chat or live tracking, and whether you already have a backend with a documented API. A new backend and admin panel can be as much work as the app itself.
How should I choose an app development company?
Ask how the team will measure use and diagnose crashes from the first release. Analytics and crash reporting can show which screens people use, where they give up and which devices crash. Ask what will be set up and how you will see that information after release.
What is included in your mobile app development service?
The service includes push notifications and in-app purchases or subscriptions on both stores. Discuss the messages and purchases you need as part of the scope, so the screens and supporting work are planned alongside the rest of the app.
Who owns the app and its accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. Keep the developer accounts, signing access and code repository in your business’s name too. Accounts held in an agency’s or freelancer’s name can make the app difficult to move later.
What support is available after launch?
Launch is followed by ongoing support for bug fixes, operating-system updates and new features. Some JavaScript and content fixes can be sent over the air; changes to native code, new permissions and Expo SDK upgrades still need a store release.
Do you publish the app to the stores?
Yes. We handle the store listings, submission and review under your own developer accounts. Those accounts give your business the place from which the app is submitted, so arrange them in your company’s name before release preparation begins.
