Choosing
Should you build a native or cross-platform app?
Start with your audience. If your website analytics or customer surveys show that most target users carry iPhones, an iPhone-first release has a clear basis. Check the evidence before deciding: the platform choice affects what you build now and what you will need to build if your audience later includes Android users.
Native Swift with SwiftUI suits an iPhone-only product or an app built around Apple features such as widgets, an Apple Watch app or HealthKit. It gives you an Apple-focused build, with a separate Android build to consider if you add that platform. React Native or Flutter suits a product that needs Android soon, sharing most code across the platforms; native Swift modules can cover features the framework does not.
Distribution is another decision. An app for your own staff can be distributed privately as a custom app through Apple Business or Apple School Manager, instead of appearing on the public App Store. Consider who needs access before settling on a release route.
Market
What iOS app buyers in the United Kingdom need
The useful features depend on the people using the app. If you run a consumer brand whose customers mostly carry iPhones, loyalty, reordering and Apple Pay checkout are features to consider when defining the first release. For a clinic, studio or hospitality business, the work could centre on bookings, reminders and Wallet passes for tickets or memberships.
Staff have different needs from customers. If your organisation issues iPhones or iPads to employees, a private app for inspections, sales visits or stock checks can be installed on your own devices. Decide which staff tasks the screens need to support before agreeing the scope.
How it runs
How an iOS app development project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 5h30m ahead of the UK, or 4h30m ahead during British Summer Time, so the shared board gives you a place to follow the work and leave feedback across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You bring the problem you want the app to address, and we agree the scope together before the work moves into design.
- 02
Design
We design the screens and flows to follow Apple’s guidelines. You review how people move through the app and give feedback on the proposed experience.
- 03
Test
TestFlight lets you install development builds on your own iPhone. Friendly customers can also join as external testers once Apple has reviewed the first beta build.
- 04
Prepare for review
If the app has a login, Apple’s reviewers need a working demo account and a live backend. We also check for placeholder text, test content, broken links and crashes before submission.
- 05
Release
We prepare the App Store listing, submit the app for review and fix issues raised in a rejection. You can review the listing as part of preparing the app for release.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather these details to help define the build and its release.
- Organisation enrolmentHave your D-U-N-S number, legal entity name and a working public website on your own domain ready for the Apple Developer Program.
- Seller nameDecide on the account type. An organisation account shows the company name on the App Store; an individual account shows the person’s legal name.
- Privacy policyPrepare a policy explaining data collection, sharing and deletion requests. The app needs a link to it inside the app and in App Store Connect.
- System accessArrange test access to booking, CRM or payment systems so development builds do not touch live customer data.
- Digital salesDecide whether you will sell subscriptions or premium content, since that determines whether Apple’s in-app purchase needs to be built.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timeline of iOS app development
The scope of the product determines where design, build and testing effort goes.
Android plans
A cross-platform build supports a later Android release with shared code. A Swift-only app needs a separate codebase when Android is added.
Backend and administration
Accounts, data and staff tools can add as much work as the app itself. An existing backend with a documented API reduces that work.
In-app purchases
Subscriptions add store product setup, server-side purchase checks, purchase restoration, upgrades and refund handling to the work.
Apple devices and surfaces
iPad layouts, widgets, an Apple Watch app, Siri shortcuts and Live Activities each add work. Choose the ones your users need.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid with iOS app development
Wrapping the website
An app that only repackages an existing site risks rejection. Plan what the app will offer beyond the website before settling on its scope.
Demanding sign-up too early
Let people see value before asking them to create an account. Apple asks apps without significant account-based features to allow use without login.
Sending promotions without consent
Ask people to opt in to promotional push notifications inside the app and give them an in-app way to opt out.
Asking for permissions without context
Explain why the app needs location, camera, contacts or photos when the request is relevant, rather than using vague wording at first launch.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have an iOS app developed?
There is no single price for every app. The main drivers include the choice of native or cross-platform development, whether you need iPad support, and the work needed for accounts, data and an admin panel. Agreeing those parts of the scope gives you a basis for discussing a quote.
How should I choose an iOS app development company?
Choose a company that lets you discuss the work directly with the people designing and building it. We do that. Ask how the proposed screens will use familiar iPhone navigation and system controls, and how they will support larger text, Dark Mode and VoiceOver labels.
What privacy features need to be included?
An app with account creation needs a way for people to start deleting their account and personal data inside the app. Temporary deactivation is not enough. App Store Connect also needs privacy details for data collected by the app and its third-party SDKs; those details appear on the listing.
Will I own the app code?
Yes. You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. As you agree the scope, identify the code and content that form part of your app so ownership is clear to everyone involved. That gives you control over those assets after the app is launched.
What support does an iOS app need after launch?
We handle updates for new iOS versions, bug fixes and new features. Even a stable app needs rebuilding and retesting when Apple raises the minimum tools required for uploads. App Store Connect also shows listing impressions, downloads, conversion and crashes; in-app analytics adds insight into what people do after installing.
How do you handle sign-in and advertising permissions?
The build needs to reflect the sign-in and advertising choices in your product. If the main sign-in uses a third-party login such as Google, Sign in with Apple is the usual equivalent option. Apps that link user data across other companies’ apps or sites for advertising, or share it with data brokers, must first request permission through App Tracking Transparency.
