Choosing

Which platform should you choose?

Shopify is the simplest option to run. WooCommerce suits a team already working in WordPress, particularly when the store sits alongside a lot of content. With WooCommerce, you have control over code, data and hosting, and someone needs to look after updates, security and plugin compatibility.

A custom storefront, such as Next.js connected to a commerce back end, fits unusual catalogues, product configurators or brands with extensive content. It takes more build effort, and most later changes need a developer. We recommend an approach after learning about your products and operations, so the choice reflects how you will manage the store as well as how customers will use it.

Your own store and a marketplace can also work alongside each other. A marketplace brings traffic but controls the rules and customer relationship; your own store keeps customer data and margin, while you take responsibility for attracting visitors. Stock can be synced between them.

Local

What Colorado businesses need from a store

Colorado's economy includes agriculture and manufacturing. A maker selling configurable goods needs the storefront to capture the customer's choices, with file uploads, previews or pricing rules where the product calls for them. Those details need to reach the order record in a form the business can use.

The state's high-technology industries include businesses that sell to other businesses. A wholesale operation may need customer-specific prices, minimum order quantities, quote requests and ordering on account, so the buying process reflects the terms agreed with each customer.

Small businesses made up 99.5% of Colorado businesses in 2025. A retailer adding online sales to a physical shop needs stock synced with its till system and a click-and-collect option that customers can select when ordering.

Rules

What a United States store needs to handle

Statewide sales tax applies in many US states. Your checkout needs tax settings that reflect the products and markets you sell into; we configure those settings as part of the store build, using the decisions you provide.

Commercial email, including business-to-business email, must include a valid physical postal address and a clear opt-out, and opt-out requests must be honoured. We connect your email tool so your commercial messages can include those details and your team can handle requests.

How it runs

How a store project runs with us

We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 10h30m (Eastern) to 13h30m (Pacific) ahead of the mainland US in winter, and 1 hour less during daylight saving time, except Arizona. Shared boards keep decisions and feedback available across the time difference.

  1. 01

    Discover

We learn about your business, customers and goals, then agree the scope with you. Bring the questions your team needs the store to solve.

  2. 02

    Design

We prepare product, collection and checkout screens for desktop and mobile. You review the designs and give feedback before coding starts.

  3. 03

    Catalogue

We import a small sample first. You check titles, variants, prices and images before the full catalogue goes in.

  4. 04

    Build and test

The store is built and tested on devices and browsers. Before launch, you place test orders for payment methods, shipping zones, discounts and tax cases, then check the order records, stock and emails.

  5. 05

    Launch and care

We set up the domain, email, analytics and search, followed by ongoing support.

Checklist

What to have ready before we talk

Gather these details so we can agree what the store needs.

  • A product spreadsheet with descriptions, prices, SKUs, variants, stock, categories, weights and package sizes.
  • Plain-language shipping, returns, refund, privacy and terms policies.
  • Business registration, bank details and identity documents for a payment account in your business's name.
  • Your tax decisions, checked with an accountant, plus delivery areas, couriers and charges.
  • Logins for your domain, current site, email, analytics and Google accounts, held in your business's name.

Cost & time

What affects the cost and timeline?

The work changes with the decisions and material you bring to the project.

  • Product data

A clean spreadsheet is quicker to import than information spread across an old store, supplier documents and photos.

  • Design

Adapting an existing theme takes less work than a custom design for unusual products or a distinct brand.

  • Migration

Moving customers and order history calls for more planning than moving products alone, where the platforms allow it.

  • Additional markets

Each market brings decisions about currencies, taxes, duties, translated content and shipping, sometimes requiring extensions.

Avoid

Mistakes to avoid

  • Surprise checkout charges

Show delivery and tax estimates on product or cart pages, before shoppers reach the final step.

  • Heavy product pages

Compress images and load review, chat and tracking scripts only where needed.

  • Lost page addresses during migration

Map old product and category URLs to their closest new pages with permanent server-side redirects.

  • Testing only in a sandbox

Place a real low-value order using live payment settings, then refund it and check the order email and payment configuration.

Questions

Asked by businesses in Colorado

Page updated 5 November 2026

How much does an ecommerce website cost to develop?

There is no fixed price. Catalogue size and variants, custom options, and checkout or pricing rules are major drivers. A store with wholesale price tiers or customer-specific catalogues needs different work from a straightforward catalogue. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.

What is included in the store build?

The build covers the catalogue, storefront, cart and checkout, payment and shipping settings, order emails, customer accounts, policy pages and the admin your team uses. We also connect accounting, ERP, email and marketplace tools where needed, so your team does not have to handle orders, stock and shipping by hand across separate systems.

Can you migrate our existing store?

Yes. The scope can include more than product data: reviews, gift cards and redirects need consideration too. Customer passwords usually cannot move between platforms, so plan a reset email for existing customers. Agreeing what must move helps your team prepare for the change.

Which payment gateways can you set up?

We support Stripe, Razorpay, PayPal and local gateways, subject to your country and platform. Your choice also depends on where your business is registered and the currencies you sell in. Compare payment methods, settlement timing, refunds and disputes before choosing the gateway for your store.

Will we own the store after it is built?

You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in to the team that built the store. Keep access to those assets within your business so your team can make decisions about them. Ownership remains with you when you decide how the store should be maintained.

What should we check after launch?

Retest the full checkout after each app, plugin or theme change, and give staff separate logins with only the permissions they need. Track conversion, average order value, checkout drop-off, repeat purchases and product-page speed against your figures from before launch or migration.
