What it does

An Open Graph meta tag generator writes the tags that control how a link looks when shared on LinkedIn, WhatsApp, X, Slack or Facebook. Enter the title, description, URL and share image, and the complete block of og: and twitter: tags appears on the right, with a preview card that shows roughly what people will see. Quotes and ampersands are escaped, image dimensions are included, and checks flag a missing image or a non-https URL.

How to use it

  1. Enter the page title and a one or two sentence description.
  2. Paste the page URL and the absolute https URL of a 1200 by 630 image.
  3. Add alt text for the image and your site name.
  4. Pick the og:type, usually website or article, and the Twitter card style.
  5. Copy the block into the head of the page, then re-scrape the URL in each platform's debugger.

How to read the result

The preview card shows the domain, title and description under an image placeholder, laid out like a LinkedIn or Slack unfurl. The Checks badge is green when the four core fields are present and the image is https. A title of 74 characters turns it amber with the note that LinkedIn and X may cut it; most platforms show about 60 characters before an ellipsis.

The Tags stat counts the lines in the output. A full set with image, alt text, site name, locale and handle is 16 tags. The og:image:width and og:image:height tags are included so that Facebook can render the card correctly the first time a link is shared, rather than after a second scrape.

If you change the image later, keep the same filename only if you also change the URL, for example by adding a version query string. Otherwise the cached card persists for days.

For the full head block including title, canonical and robots tags, use the meta tags generator. Share images and previews are set up on every template in our technical SEO service.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Why does my link still show the old image after I changed the tags?

Every platform caches the first scrape of a URL. Use the Facebook Sharing Debugger, LinkedIn Post Inspector or X Card Validator to re-scrape the page. WhatsApp and Slack cache too but have no public tool; adding a query string to the shared URL forces a fresh fetch.

What size should the image be?

1200 by 630 pixels, which is a 1.91:1 ratio, under 1 MB, as JPG or PNG. That one image works for Facebook, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp, Slack and Discord. Keep text and logos away from the edges, since some platforms crop to a square or a wider strip.

Do I need both og: and twitter: tags?

X falls back to Open Graph tags for title, description and image, so the twitter:card tag is the only one it strictly needs. Including the full set costs nothing and lets you give X a different title if you want. Most platforms read only the og: tags.
