This chatbot flow builder lets you map a bot's questions, answers and hand-offs as plain text, then test and export the flow. Write each step as an id and a message, mark steps that wait for a typed answer, hand off to a person or end the chat, and list the options under each step. The builder checks the flow for links to steps that do not exist, dead ends, steps that cannot be reached, long menus, long button labels and a missing hand-off. You can click through the conversation in the test panel, and export a Mermaid diagram or JSON for developers. Nothing leaves your browser.
How to use it
- Write the first step as "start: your greeting", then indent options below it as "- Button label -> next-step".
- Add [input], [handoff] or [end] after a step id where needed, and "-> next-step" after an input step.
- Fix anything in the problems list.
- Click through the test panel to try every path.
- Export the Mermaid diagram for the team, or the JSON for whoever builds the bot.
How to read the result
The default example is a dental clinic's assistant with 8 steps: a greeting with four options, opening hours, prices, a booking path that asks for a day and a phone number, a hand-off to reception and two endings. It has 1 hand-off and 1 problem: the greeting offers 4 options, and the builder suggests three or fewer.
That warning is a judgement call. Here, "Talk to a person" could move to the bottom of every answer instead of the first menu, leaving three options.
Errors are more serious than checks. If an option points to "pricing" but the step is called "prices", the builder shows an error and the test panel disables that button, so you find the broken link before your customers do.
The booking path shows how [input] steps work: the bot asks, the person types, and the flow moves to the step after "->". In the JSON export, each step lists its kind, text, options and next step.

Questions
Frequently asked.
Why map a chatbot flow before building it?
A written flow shows the gaps before anyone writes code: questions with no answer, steps that lead nowhere, and paths with no way to reach a person. It is also something the whole team can read and agree on. Changing a line of text costs far less than changing a built bot.
Do I still need a flow for an AI chatbot?
Yes, though a looser one. An AI assistant can answer free-text questions, but you still decide the greeting, the main paths, what details to collect before a hand-off, and when it must pass the conversation to a person. The flow becomes the outline for its instructions and tests.
How many options should each step offer?
Three or fewer is easier to tap on a phone and easier to read. If you need more, group them or let people type their question. On WhatsApp, keep button labels to 20 characters or fewer so they are not cut off.
