Choosing
Should you choose a website builder, WordPress or a custom site?
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow suits a small site that you want to run on your own. The trade-off is less control over code and speed. Moving the site away later can mean rebuilding it, so consider how much control you expect to need as your content changes.
A custom-coded site, such as one built in Next.js, suits a business that wants fast pages, tight security and a design without template limits. You will need a developer for structural changes. WordPress is another route when your team wants to manage content; we use it when full editing control is a priority.
A headless setup combines a custom front end with a separate content editor. It suits a site that needs speed and frequent, substantial editing, although it has more moving parts to host and maintain. We recommend WordPress or a custom Next.js site after learning how your team works and who will make changes.
Local
What Springfield organisations need from a website
Springfield is Illinois's state capital and the Sangamon County seat. For professional services firms working with organisations there, a site needs to help a prospective client check expertise before making contact. Separate service and partner pages give you room to explain what you do and show the credentials behind the work.
Springfield's economy includes healthcare and medicine. A clinic or appointment-based practice needs service pages that help visitors choose what to ask for, practitioner profiles that introduce the people providing care, and opening hours that are easy to find. A booking or call option needs to work well on a phone, where a visitor may be ready to get in touch.
Rules
What a United States website project needs to handle
Accessibility belongs in the brief. US guidance says the ADA covers the online goods and services of businesses open to the public and identifies WCAG as helpful guidance. We agree an accessibility target with you and design the page layouts around it. For a state or local government website, the applicable rule requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA; we use that target for the page designs and forms in the build.
How it runs
How your website project runs with us
We work remotely and organise your reviews around the project stages. India time is 10h30m (Eastern) to 13h30m (Pacific) ahead of the mainland US in winter, and 1 hour less during daylight saving time. Your feedback on the page designs lets us continue from an agreed direction across the time difference.
- 01
Discover
Tell us who buys from you, why they choose you and what visitors should do. We use those answers to shape the sitemap.
- 02
Plan
We prepare wireframes before visual design. You review the content and its order on each page, leaving colours for the next stage.
- 03
Design
We create page designs for desktop and mobile, then refine them with your feedback before the build starts.
- 04
Build
We develop the site or an editable CMS and test it on real devices and browsers. You review the work as it takes shape.
- 05
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have and identify the gaps.
- Rank the services or products you want visitors to see first.
- Choose a goal, such as quote requests, and name the person who handles each enquiry.
- Collect case studies, testimonials and client logos you have permission to show.
- Find the domain, hosting, email and analytics logins, or identify who holds them.
- Note websites you like and dislike, with a reason for each choice.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time of website development
The scope of the pages and content determines much of the work.
Page templates
Distinct layouts need separate design and build work; pages sharing a template require less.
Content preparation
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller than adding writing, photography or translation.
Migration
Moving old posts, news archives and downloadable files adds transfer and checking work.
Design approach
An adapted template fits a simple brief but still needs reworking around your real content; a custom design fits more specific needs.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Springfield
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to build a website?
There is no fixed price: the scope determines the cost. An existing logo and style guide reduce design effort, while content still being gathered needs an owner and adds coordination. A separate front end and editor also add hosting and maintenance work. Once we agree the scope, you can ask us for a quote.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We can build on your logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Share the files and style information your team already uses, along with any parts that are still being decided, so the page designs have a clear starting point.
Will our team be able to update the website?
Yes. We provide an editor for pages, news, projects and careers that your team can use without training. Decide who will update each type of content after launch, particularly job posts and news, so that visitors are not left wondering whether old information is still current.
Will we own the website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Keep the domain and hosting accounts in your business's name and grant access to the people working on the site; that way, you retain control of those accounts when someone else makes changes for you.
How do we check whether the site is useful after launch?
Measure the enquiries it generates. Track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions in analytics, then check which pages visitors started from. That gives you a practical way to see which parts of the site are contributing enquiries and where to review the content.
