Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
Start with who will update the site and how often. WordPress suits a team that regularly edits its own content. A custom Next.js site suits a business that wants a design without template limits and is comfortable asking a developer to handle structural changes. It can still include an editor for content, so choosing custom code does not mean every text change needs a developer.
A hosted builder such as Wix, Squarespace or Webflow is another option for a small site that you want to run yourself. The trade-off is less control over code and speed; moving away from the builder later can mean rebuilding the site. Think about how much control you expect to need before you settle on a platform.
We recommend an approach after learning how your team works. During design review, look at every page on a phone as well as on a large screen. That gives you a clearer view of the layouts your visitors will use.
Local
What Madison organisations need from their websites
Precision manufacturing and healthcare are part of the local economy. If you supply manufacturing customers, give them capability or product pages, certifications and downloadable specifications, followed by a quote form that asks for enough detail to respond. If you run a clinic, make service pages, practitioner profiles and opening hours easy to find, with a booking or call option that works on a phone.
Health information technology is also present in the city. If your organisation publishes updates about its work, an editor for pages, news, projects and careers gives your team a way to keep that information current without training. For an engineering firm serving local clients, a project portfolio with photos and project details gives prospective customers material to assess before they enquire.
Rules
What a US website project has to handle
For businesses open to the public, US guidance says ADA Title III covers goods and services offered on the web, and identifies WCAG as helpful guidance. We agree an accessibility target in your brief and set up a clear heading structure on each page. We also include page titles, descriptions, an XML sitemap and structured data in the build, so those search details are planned from the start.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and a shared project board. India is ahead of the mainland US, with the difference changing seasonally; the board keeps decisions and feedback available across that gap.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, audience and goals. You tell us what the site needs to do, and we agree the scope together before design begins.
- 02
Plan
We prepare wireframes showing what belongs on each page and in what order. Review the content and priorities at this stage; colours come later.
- 03
Build
We develop the site in clean code or use a content management system your team can edit. We test it on real devices and browsers.
- 04
Check
You proofread every page, submit each form and confirm who receives its messages. This gives you a chance to catch small errors before visitors see them.
- 05
Launch
We set up the domain, email, analytics and Search Console, then walk your team through the handover.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring examples of sites you like and dislike, with a note explaining why.
- Your logo in a vector format, brand colours and fonts, or a note that these need creating.
- A ranked list of the services or products the site should feature.
- A goal for the site and the person who handles each type of enquiry.
- Real photos of your team, premises and finished work; arrange a shoot ahead if needed.
- Logins for your domain, hosting, email, analytics and Search Console, or the name of whoever holds them.
Cost & time
What affects cost and delivery time
The scope determines the design, build and checking work.
Page templates
Distinct layouts take more design and build effort than pages sharing the same template.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, extra languages and CRM connections add design, development and testing work.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the scope smaller; copywriting, photography or translation adds work.
Migration
Moving blog posts, news archives and downloadable files from an old site adds transfer and checking work.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Madison
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. A bespoke design has a different scope from an adapted template, while a separate front end and editor add hosting and maintenance work. Gathering service descriptions, team biographies and photos also affects the work. Once we agree the scope, you can ask us for a quote.
Is a website still worth investing in?
A website is worth assessing against the enquiries you want it to generate. Track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks as conversions, and check which pages visitors started from. Assign someone to update news, projects and job posts too, so visitors see current information when they arrive.
What is included in the development work?
The work includes development, enquiry forms and search-ready page setup. We build in Next.js or WordPress, route contact and quote forms to the right inbox, and add WhatsApp and click-to-call. The search setup includes metadata, structured data, sitemaps and fast loading across the pages.
Will I own my website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Your business should also hold the domain and hosting accounts in its own name and grant access to the people working on the site. That keeps control of those accounts with you when you change who maintains the website.
Can you use our existing brand?
Yes. We build on your existing logo, colours and fonts, and prepare brand assets for the web where needed. Supply real headings and paragraphs during design as well: placeholder text can make a layout look finished even though your actual content needs a different amount of space.
