Choosing
Should you choose WordPress or a custom website?
WordPress suits a team that publishes often and wants to edit most of the site itself. Its plugins offer a wide choice of functions, though someone needs to keep them updated to maintain security. Before choosing it, decide who will be responsible for those updates as well as the content.
A custom-coded site in Next.js suits you if you want fast pages and a design without template limits. It also suits a team happy to ask a developer to make structural changes. You can still have an editor for content; the choice is about how your team works, not whether anyone will ever edit a page.
A headless setup pairs a custom front end with a separate editor. It fits a site that needs speed and substantial content editing, but adds components to host and maintain. We recommend WordPress or a custom site after learning who will update it and what they need to change.
Local
What Auckland businesses need from their websites
Finance and commerce are strengths of Auckland’s economy. If you run a financial or business services firm, give each service a clear page and show the people behind the advice, including their credentials. Visitors checking expertise need somewhere specific to look before they call.
Auckland’s commercial and industrial areas include the CBD and western Manukau. If you supply products to other businesses, put capabilities, certifications and downloadable specifications where buyers can find them. Your quote form should ask for enough detail to make a useful response possible.
Auckland also has festivals, performing arts and cultural institutions. If your organisation needs visitors to get in touch, decide where enquiries should go and what the confirmation message should say. We set up contact forms alongside click-to-call and WhatsApp options.
Rules
What your website needs to handle in New Zealand
The Privacy Act 2020 governs how personal information is collected, stored, used and shared. For your website, we set up contact and quote forms to send enquiries to the right inbox, and a privacy page covering how your organisation handles the information it collects. Decide who receives those messages and how your organisation will handle them.
Agree an accessibility target in the brief too. The W3C encourages use of its latest WCAG version and sets out criteria at levels A, AA and AAA; that choice gives the design and build a target to work towards.
How it runs
How a website project runs with us
We work remotely over video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. India is 6h30m behind, or 7h30m behind during New Zealand daylight time, so the shared board gives both sides a place to keep feedback and decisions visible across the time difference.

Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Gather what you already have, and note where someone else holds the details.
- List your services or products in business priority order.
- Bring examples of websites you like and dislike, with a reason for each.
- Choose a goal, such as quote requests, and name the person who handles each enquiry.
- Find vector logo files, brand colours and fonts, or note what still needs creating.
- Gather case studies, permitted client logos, testimonials and certifications in a folder.
- Identify who holds your domain, hosting, email and analytics logins.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and time needed
The scope determines how much design, build and review work is needed.
Page templates
Pages sharing a layout take less design and build effort than pages that each need a distinct layout.
Features
Booking, calculators, member logins, multiple languages and CRM connections add design, development and testing work.
Content
Copy and photos ready to publish keep the work smaller; adding copywriting, photography or translation expands it.
Brand assets
An existing logo and style guide reduce design work compared with a project where the colours, typefaces and logo still need decisions.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid when building your website
Copying every old page
Review what visitors need first. A shorter site with clear service pages is easier to scan and maintain.
Leaving content until the end
Use real headings and paragraphs during design, so their length does not disrupt finished layouts.
Leaving search setup until launch is over
Check page titles, the sitemap and development indexing settings before the site goes live.
Picking a platform too early
Establish who will edit the site and how often before deciding what to build it on.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Auckland
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to have a website built?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include the scope of the pages and forms, how much content needs gathering, and the hosting and maintenance required by the chosen setup. Decide who will supply service descriptions, team bios and photos. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
Is a business website still worth building?
It can be useful when it gives visitors a clear next step and you have a way to measure enquiries. For example, track form submissions, calls and WhatsApp clicks in analytics, then check which pages people started from. That gives you something practical to review after launch.
Should I use a website builder or hire a developer?
A hosted builder suits a small site you want to run yourself. Tools such as Wix, Squarespace and Webflow give you less control over code and speed, however, and moving away can mean rebuilding. A custom Next.js site gives a developer control over the build and can still include an editor.
What does website design and development include?
We design and build the pages and provide an editor for content such as news, projects and careers. We build in Next.js or use WordPress when your team needs full editing control. If you already have a logo, colours and fonts, we work with those and prepare assets for the web where needed.
Will I own my website?
Yes. You own the domain, content and code. Keep your domain and hosting accounts in your business’s name and grant access to the people working on the site. That way, you retain control of the accounts rather than having to ask an agency or freelancer for access later.
What happens after the website launches?
We provide ongoing support after setting up the domain, email, analytics and search tools. You should also decide who in your team will keep news, projects and job posts current. An old post at the top of a page can leave visitors wondering whether your business is still trading.
