Choosing
Which ecommerce platform should you choose?
Shopify suits you if you want hosting, security, checkout and platform updates handled for you. You can add features through apps, though their subscriptions add recurring costs. Deeper checkout changes are limited to the Shopify Plus plan, so check your checkout requirements before choosing it.
WooCommerce is a fit if your team already works in WordPress or your store has a lot of content. You have control over code, data and hosting, but someone needs to look after hosting, updates, security and plugin compatibility. That ongoing work belongs in your decision.
A custom or headless storefront, such as Next.js connected to a commerce back end, suits an unusual catalogue, a product configurator or a content-led brand. It takes more build effort, and most later changes need a developer. We learn how your products and operations work before recommending a platform, so the choice reflects what your team will actually use.
Local
What Phoenix businesses need from an online store
Retail is among Phoenix’s leading industries. If you run a physical shop and want to sell online, your store needs stock connected to your till system and a clear collection option. If you supply other businesses, customer-specific prices, minimum order quantities and quote requests can shape how buyers place an order.
Tourism is also a long-running Phoenix industry. If your visitor-facing business sells made-to-order goods, shoppers need to understand their choices before paying. We can design the ordering flow around the product, with options such as file uploads, previews or price rules where those are needed.
Rules
What a United States store needs to handle
State-level sales tax applies in many US states. We configure the store’s tax rules around the products and markets you identify; check which taxes apply and whether your prices include them with your accountant.
US commercial email needs a valid physical postal address and a clear way to opt out. We connect your email tool and set up the opt-out route, with your business address included in commercial messages.
How it runs
How your ecommerce project runs with us
India is 12h30m ahead of Arizona. We keep work moving remotely by sharing decisions and feedback between calls, so you can review the work in your own working day.
- 01
Discover
We learn about your business, customers and goals. You explain how orders are handled now, and we agree the store’s scope with you.
- 02
Design
We design product, collection and checkout pages for desktop and mobile. You review the screens and give feedback before code is written.
- 03
Prepare the catalogue
We import a small sample first. You check titles, variants, prices and images; once the format is right, we import the full catalogue.
- 04
Build and test
We build the agreed store and test it on real devices and browsers. Your team can review how the pages work as the build takes shape.
- 05
Launch and care
We set up the domain, email, analytics and search. Ongoing support follows launch, so you have a route for help with the store afterwards.
Checklist
What to have ready before we talk
Bring what you have; the missing decisions will help shape the scope.
- A product spreadsheet with names, descriptions, prices, SKUs, variants, stock, categories, weights and package sizes.
- Original product photos, including views from several angles and an image for each colour variant.
- Plain-language shipping, returns, refund, privacy and terms policies for shoppers and payment-provider checks.
- Business registration, bank details and identity documents for a payment account in your business’s name. Apply early; the provider decides approval.
- Your delivery rules, including pickup, free-delivery thresholds and any products restricted from certain areas.
Cost & time
What affects the cost and timing of ecommerce development
The work grows with the decisions and systems the store has to accommodate.
Catalogue preparation
Importing products, setting up variants and organising stock management all need a usable product format.
Migration
Moving customers and order history adds work beyond importing products. Existing customers usually need a password reset email.
Checkout and pricing rules
Delivery date selection, wholesale tiers or customer-specific catalogues add decisions and build work.
Extra markets
Currencies, translated content, duties and shipping options need decisions for each market, and some platforms need extensions.
Avoid
Mistakes to avoid during an ecommerce build
Overloading product pages
Compress images and load review, chat or tracking scripts only where they are needed.
Testing payments only in sandbox mode
Place a real low-value order on the live settings and refund it to check the payment, order and email flow.
Adding an app for every small feature
Review what each app or plugin does and remove unused ones to limit scripts, clutter, conflicts and recurring fees.
Leaving order emails without domain authentication
Set up SPF or DKIM for your sending domain to reduce the risk of messages landing in spam.
Questions
Asked by businesses in Phoenix
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does an ecommerce website cost to develop?
There is no fixed price. The main drivers include the number and complexity of products and variants, the choice between an adapted theme and a custom design, and the depth of integrations such as stock and price sync. We send you a free quote once we have agreed the scope.
Do I need my own store if I already sell on a marketplace?
Your own store gives you control of the customer relationship, data and margin, while a marketplace brings ready traffic under its own rules. The store needs to attract its own visitors. You can also use both and sync stock, so the choice need not mean giving up your marketplace.
Can you move my existing store to a new platform?
Yes. We can move products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it. We also map old product and category URLs to their closest new pages and use permanent redirects, including for products that are dropped, so visitors following old links have somewhere relevant to go.
What is included in payment and order setup?
We choose and configure the payment gateway, then test paid, failed, cancelled and refunded orders against the order record, stock and customer email. Order messages also need your branding, a sender on your domain and wording that reflects your actual policies, including for dispatch and refunds.
Will I own my store after it is built?
Yes. You own your domain, content and code, so you are not locked to the team that built the store. Keep access to those assets in your business’s control; that leaves you able to decide who works on the store as your needs change.
What should we do after the store launches?
Keep checking checkout and measuring how the store performs. Retest the full checkout after app, plugin or theme changes, and give staff separate logins with only the access they need. Compare conversion, checkout drop-off and product-page speed with your figures from before launch or migration.
