Skills
What a good WordPress developer brings
Look beyond the finished page. The editing experience, code changes and release process all give you useful ways to assess a developer's work.
- Block editingCustom blocks, patterns and theme.json settings give your editors layouts they can use without breaking the design.
- Safe customisationActions and filters, a child theme or a custom plugin change behaviour without editing WordPress core or another plugin's files.
- Content structureCustom post types, taxonomies and fields give editors forms suited to the content your business publishes.
- SecuritySanitising input, escaping output, checking user capabilities and limiting admin accounts help protect the site.
- Store developmentWooCommerce work includes product types, checkout changes, payment and shipping extensions, and order data.
Use cases
What you can hire WordPress developers for
WordPress fits content-led sites, blogs and small to mid-sized stores where your editors need a familiar admin area and a choice of themes and plugins. You can hire a developer to build a company website on a custom or adapted theme, then give your marketing team control over its pages and blog.
For a store, membership site or online course, the work can include payments and user accounts. A custom plugin can add a business feature, connect a CRM or booking tool, or give editors a tailored admin area. For a separate front end, WordPress can hold the content and supply it through an API.
How hiring works
How hiring works with us
You direct the work and have access to the people doing it. The developers we provide already work on our client projects; we do not find freelancers specifically for your project.
- 01
Choose capacity
Hire full time, part time or for a fixed number of hours a month, according to the work you want to put on the backlog.
- 02
Join your workflow
We work in your repository, tickets and stand-ups, with overlap hours agreed up front.
- 03
Walk through the codebase
Share your architecture, coding standards, branching and release process, plus instructions for running the project locally. Record gaps as we find them.
- 04
Set up access
Start with individual accounts and the permissions needed for staging. Add production access once the review process is in place.
- 05
Review the work
We include code reviews, tests and documentation, giving your team material to maintain as the site changes.
Time zones
Working hours between Germany and India
India is 4h30m ahead, or 3h30m ahead during Central European Summer Time. We use Slack, WhatsApp or email and regular calls, so you can speak directly with the developers doing the work.
Protect a fixed overlap window for stand-ups and quick questions. Outside that window, written end-of-day updates can record progress, blockers and next steps for you to pick up at the start of your day. Put acceptance criteria, screenshots and links in tickets to reduce back-and-forth.
Rules
What your WordPress project in Germany needs to handle
For cookies that are not strictly necessary to provide a service the user explicitly requests, we set up a consent banner that asks for informed consent before those cookies are stored or read.
If our work involves processing personal data for you, we set up a processor contract and document your approval before using further processors. India has no EU adequacy decision, so a transfer also needs appropriate safeguards; standard data protection clauses can be used for this.
Vetting
How to judge a WordPress developer before you commit
- Ask how they would add a feature that an existing plugin almost provides. Look for hooks or a small custom plugin; editing the plugin's own files is a warning sign.
- Set a paid taska custom block, or a custom post type with fields and a template, delivered in a Git repository.
- Ask how they choose plugins. Check that their answer covers update history, support activity, reviews and the code loaded on each page.
- Measure progress through merged pull requests, demos and shipped features, rather than the number of meetings attended.
Checklist
What to have ready before developers start
A clear starting point lets a developer begin on work you have already prioritised.
- A ranked backlog or an initial set of well-described tasks.
- The skills and seniority you need, including experience with a legacy system where relevant.
- Your working hours, the overlap you need and the person who will answer questions.
- A definition of done covering review rules, expected tests, deployment and approval.
Cost & time
What affects the cost of hiring WordPress developers
The plan and the condition of the existing work shape the effort involved.
Commitment
Full-time, part-time or set-hour capacity, and the notice needed to change it, shape the plan.
Overlap
The amount of your working day that needs coverage affects availability and how the plan is set up.
Codebase and skills
Legacy systems, niche skills and missing documentation can make onboarding more involved.
Management
The arrangement changes according to whether a lead plans work and reviews code or you manage the developer directly.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Germany
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer?
There is no fixed price. The capacity you need and whether a lead reviews code affect the arrangement. The existing editing setup also shapes the work: page builders help editors create layouts, but add page weight and make a later theme change harder.
How do I hire dedicated remote developers?
Start with an onboarding plan and a real task. Set up the environment, walk through the product and codebase, then choose a small task that touches the main parts of the system. Review code early to establish standards and catch misunderstandings.
Should I hire directly or work with a studio?
Direct hiring gives you more control and takes longer to set up. A studio usually takes on recruitment, payroll, equipment and cover for absence while you direct the work. With us, you can also scale the plan up or down or pause it as your needs change.
Who owns the WordPress code and accounts?
You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. We provide an NDA and hand code ownership to you. Keep repositories, cloud accounts and third-party services under your organisation, and confirm the assignment of intellectual property in the contract.
Can you support the site after launch?
Yes. We provide ongoing development for features, fixes and improvements, as well as design support for new pages and interface updates. A site with many plugins needs regular updates and security care, so include that work in your maintenance plan after launch.
Can your developers work with my existing team?
Yes. We fit into your repositories, tools and review process. You control the priorities in a shared backlog that we review together, and regular demos give you a way to see progress and discuss the work directly with the team.
