Skills
What a good iOS developer brings
Look beyond a list of programming languages. Your developer should be able to explain how they structure an app, protect stored credentials and check its performance on the devices your customers use.
- InterfacesWrite Swift and build screens in SwiftUI, while working with UIKit where an existing app or a complex screen needs it.
- Background workUse async/await and actors to load data without freezing the interface or creating data races.
- Structure and testsSeparate screens, business logic and networking, using a pattern such as MVVM and tests in XCTest or Swift Testing.
- Stored dataSync local data with a server and keep passwords and tokens in the Keychain.
- PerformanceUse Instruments to investigate slow launches, memory leaks and battery drain before release.
- AccessibilitySupport Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels, sufficient contrast and layouts that adapt to different screen sizes.
Use cases
What you can hire iOS developers for
You might need an iPhone or iPad app for booking, shopping, fitness, finance or media. For staff, an internal or field app could be distributed privately through Apple Business Manager and set up for your device management. These are different products: a customer-facing booking screen and a tool used by staff in the field need their own scope and priorities.
Native iOS is a good fit when the iPhone experience is central to your product, particularly when you need high performance in the camera, audio, graphics or animation. It also suits work using Apple-specific features such as Apple Pay, HealthKit, widgets or Sign in with Apple. Start by identifying which of those capabilities your users actually need.
How hiring works
How hiring works with us
You direct the work. The developers we provide already work on our client projects; we do not find freelancers for your assignment. Design, development and launch are handled by the same team.
- 01
Choose capacity
Agree on full-time, part-time or a fixed number of hours a month, based on the work you have ready.
- 02
Add management
We include a lead who reviews code and keeps work on track, so review has an owner alongside the developer doing the work.
- 03
Join your workflow
Developers work in your repository, tickets and stand-ups. We agree the overlap hours up front so questions have a place to go.
- 04
Plan onboarding
Set up the environment, walk through the product and codebase, and give the developer a small real task that touches the main parts of the system.
- 05
Document the setup
Share your architecture, coding standards, branching and release process, plus the steps for running the project locally. Record any gaps found during onboarding.
Time zones
Working hours between Switzerland and India
IST is 4h30m ahead of Switzerland, or 3h30m ahead during Central European Summer Time. Our working week runs Monday to Saturday, India time. Agree a fixed overlap window for stand-ups and quick questions, and keep it free of other meetings on both sides.
Write tickets with acceptance criteria, screenshots and relevant links. Written end-of-day updates on progress, blockers and next steps let you catch up at the start of your day. When both sides are rarely online together, handover notes should record unfinished work, open questions and decisions already made.
Rules
Handling personal data in a Switzerland project
If your app contains personal data, decide what the remote development team needs to see. India is not on Switzerland’s list of countries with adequate data protection. Where contractual safeguards are used, recognised standard contractual clauses must be adapted or supplemented for Swiss law where needed. We set up individual accounts with the least access needed, starting with staging and adding production access after the review process is in place.
Your privacy information must also tell people when their personal data is disclosed abroad. Record the countries and safeguards in your processing activities, and consider technical measures where required by the transfer arrangements.
Vetting
How to judge an iOS developer before you commit
- Ask about SwiftUI and UIKit. The developer should explain the choice against the oldest iOS version you need to support and any screens that SwiftUI handles poorly.
- Set a paid task. A small SwiftUI app that loads and caches an API list, displays errors and includes unit tests shows how the developer handles practical work.
- Discuss a release problem. Ask about an App Store rejection, the guideline involved and the change the developer made to resolve it.
- Check account deletion. If your app offers account creation, ask how users would start deletion inside the app, as Apple requires.
Checklist
What to have ready before developers start
A little preparation gives the developer useful work from the start.
- A ranked backlog or a first set of tasks with enough detail to begin.
- The skills and seniority needed, including any framework or legacy-system experience.
- Your working hours, the overlap you need and the person who will answer questions.
- A definition of done covering review rules, expected tests, deployment and approval.
Cost & time
What affects the cost of hiring iOS developers
The shape of the engagement affects the work and capacity you need.
Commitment
Full-time, part-time and a set number of hours call for different levels of capacity; notice for changing the plan also shapes it.
Overlap
Covering more of your working day affects who is available and how the plan is set up.
Existing app
Modernising Objective-C or UIKit code, adapting to iOS releases and fixing crashes each add work to the scope.
Management
The plan changes according to whether a lead plans work and reviews code or you manage the developer directly.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Switzerland
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire an iOS developer?
There is no fixed price. The specialist skills required, the condition of your codebase and the capacity you need all shape the quote. Missing documentation or a legacy system can also make onboarding slower. We agree the scope with you before you request a quote.
Should I hire for native iOS or choose another option?
Choose according to your users and the product. Separate native iOS and Android apps mean separate codebases and often separate developers. If most users are on Android, or your app is mainly forms and content, a cross-platform app or responsive web app may serve you better.
How do I hire a remote iOS developer through a studio?
Start with work that is ready to assign, then agree how you will direct and review it. Studio hiring usually moves recruitment, payroll, equipment and absence cover to the studio. Keep code review in place from the start, and judge progress through merged pull requests, demos and shipped features.
What is included in the development plan?
The plan includes a shared backlog, regular demos and code reviews, tests and documentation. You control the priorities and review them with us regularly. Demos give you a view of the work in progress, while documentation helps the next person understand and maintain the code.
Who owns the code and project accounts?
You own the code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We provide an NDA and hand code ownership to you. Keep repositories, cloud accounts and third-party services under your organisation, and confirm the assignment of intellectual property in the contract.
Can you work with our existing developers and support the app after launch?
Yes. We fit into your repositories, tools and review process, and the plan can be scaled up, down or paused as your needs change. For releases, automated builds can use Xcode Cloud, Fastlane or a CI service such as GitHub Actions or Bitrise.
