Skills
What a good iOS developer brings
Match the developer’s skills to the app you have. A new interface and an older codebase can call for different experience, so ask candidates to explain how they would approach your screens, data and tests.
- Swift and interfacesWrite Swift and build screens with SwiftUI, while being able to work with UIKit in existing apps and complex screens.
- Background workUse async/await and actors to load data without freezing the interface or introducing data races.
- Structure and testsSeparate screens, business logic and networking, and test the logic with XCTest or Swift Testing.
- Data securityStore app data and sync it with a server, keeping passwords and tokens in the Keychain.
- PerformanceUse Instruments to find memory leaks, slow launches and battery drain before release.
- AccessibilitySupport Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels, sufficient contrast and layouts that adapt to screen sizes.
Use cases
What you can hire iOS developers for
You might need a booking, fitness, finance, media or shopping app for iPhone and iPad. Developers also maintain older apps: fixing crashes, adapting to new iOS releases and moving Objective-C or UIKit code towards Swift and SwiftUI.
For staff, an internal or field app can be distributed privately through Apple Business Manager and configured for your device management. Native iOS is a good fit when the iPhone experience is central or your app needs high performance in camera, audio, graphics or animation.
Check your audience first. If most users are on Android, or the product is mainly forms and content, a cross-platform app or responsive website could serve you better.
How hiring works
How hiring works with us
We work remotely with your team, using video calls, WhatsApp and shared project boards. You direct the work and agree how the developer will fit into your existing product process.
- 01
Choose capacity
Hire full time for a substantial ongoing backlog, or choose part-time or set monthly hours for maintenance and work that arrives in bursts.
- 02
Join your workflow
The developer works in your repository, tickets and stand-ups, with overlap agreed before work starts.
- 03
Plan onboarding
Arrange an environment setup, product and code walkthrough, and a small real task that touches the main parts of the system.
- 04
Share the technical ground rules
Provide the architecture, coding standards, branching and release process, plus instructions for running the project locally. Record gaps as you find them.
- 05
Keep accounts under your organisation
Hold the repository, cloud accounts and third-party services yourself, and confirm intellectual property assignment in the contract.
Time zones
Working hours between the Netherlands and India
India is 4h30m ahead, or 3h30m ahead during Central European Summer Time, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. Agree a fixed overlap window for stand-ups and quick questions, and keep it clear of other meetings on both sides.
Make the rest of the day useful too. Tickets with acceptance criteria, screenshots and links reduce back-and-forth, while handover notes record unfinished work, open questions and decisions for colleagues who are not online at the same time.
Rules
Handling access to data in the Netherlands
When developers in India need access to personal data, plan the transfer safeguard before granting access. Standard contractual clauses are an available safeguard where there is no adequacy decision. We set up individual accounts with only the permissions needed, starting in staging and adding production access after the review process is in place.
The transfer also needs a case-by-case assessment of additional safeguards. We set up measures such as encryption and pseudonymised data where the assessment calls for them, so the development environment reflects the data access the work actually needs.
Vetting
How to judge an iOS developer before you commit
- Set a paid taskAsk for a small SwiftUI app that loads an API list, caches it, shows errors clearly and includes unit tests.
- Inspect released appsInstall them from the App Store, read reviews and check update history for evidence of maintenance and crash complaints.
- Discuss a rejectionAsk which App Store guideline caused it and what the developer changed to resolve it.
- Test account knowledgeAsk how they would add account deletion. Apps offering account creation must let users start deletion inside the app.
Checklist
What to have ready before developers start
Prepare enough detail for the developer to begin on useful work and know who can answer questions.
- Rank the backlog or describe an initial set of tasks clearly, with the highest-priority work identified.
- Specify the skills and seniority needed, including any framework or legacy system experience.
- Share your working hours, the overlap you need and the person who will answer questions.
- Define donedocument review rules, expected tests, and how work is deployed and approved.
Cost & time
What affects the cost of hiring iOS developers
The scope and working arrangement shape the quote, so be clear about the work and responsibilities you want covered.
Overlap
Covering more of your working day shapes developer availability and how the plan is arranged.
Management
Decide whether your team will direct the developer or needs a lead to plan work and review code.
Design support
New screens, interface updates and design system work add to the scope alongside development.
Quality work
Code reviews, tests and documentation need to be accounted for alongside feature delivery.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Netherlands
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire an iOS developer?
There is no fixed price. The commitment you choose, specialist skills and the condition of your codebase are major drivers. Legacy systems or missing documentation can slow onboarding, while the notice needed to change capacity also shapes the arrangement. We send a free quote once the scope is agreed.
How can I hire a dedicated remote iOS developer?
Start by agreeing the work and capacity you need with us. The developers we provide already work on our client projects; they are not freelancers found for your assignment. Your priorities go into a shared backlog, which we review with you regularly as the work progresses.
Should I hire directly or through a studio?
Choose according to how much of the hiring and employment work you want to handle. Direct hiring gives you more control and takes longer to set up. A studio usually handles recruitment, payroll, equipment and cover for absence while you direct the work. Our plan can also be scaled or paused.
How does the developer work with our existing team?
We fit into your repositories, tools and review process, so your existing developers can work with us directly. You also get regular progress updates and demos. Use those sessions to inspect completed work, discuss feedback and decide what should move forward next.
Who owns the code and how is it protected?
You own the code, along with your domain and content, without lock-in. We provide an NDA and hand code ownership to you. Keep the ownership terms clear when agreeing the engagement so your team knows what it will receive and can continue using the work.
Can development continue after the app launches?
Yes. Post-launch work can include beta testing through TestFlight and releases and analytics in App Store Connect. Automated builds and releases are also an option using tools such as Xcode Cloud or Fastlane. Your app and its third-party SDKs also need privacy manifests describing relevant data collection and API use.
