Skills
What a good iOS developer brings
Look beyond a list of programming languages. A useful developer can explain how they handle data, testing, accessibility and performance in the app you need to build.
- Background workUse Swift concurrency, async/await and actors to load data without freezing the interface or causing data races.
- Structure and testsKeep screens, business logic and networking separate, using a pattern such as MVVM, and test the logic with XCTest or Swift Testing.
- Storage and securityStore app data with SwiftData, Core Data or SQLite, sync it with a server and keep passwords and tokens in the Keychain.
- PerformanceUse Instruments to find memory leaks, slow launches and battery drain, then fix them before release.
- AccessibilityBuild with Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels, sufficient contrast and layouts that adapt to different screen sizes.
Use cases
What you can hire iOS developers for
Native iOS is a good fit when the iPhone experience is central to your product, or when you need Apple-specific features or high performance in areas such as camera, audio or animation. For an app made mainly of forms and content, or one whose users are mostly on Android, a responsive web app or cross-platform app may serve you better.
You could hire developers to build a booking, fitness, finance, media or shopping app for iPhone and iPad. Apple Pay, widgets or Sign in with Apple can shape the work. For staff, a private app can be distributed through Apple Business Manager and connected to your device management.
Existing apps need attention too. Work can include fixing crashes, adapting to new iOS releases or moving older Objective-C and UIKit code towards Swift and SwiftUI.
How hiring works
How hiring works with us
You direct the work. The developers we provide already work on our client projects; we do not find freelancers for your assignment. A lead reviews code and helps keep the work on track.
- 01
Choose the capacity
Full-time work suits a full, ongoing backlog on one product. Part-time or hour-based work suits maintenance, a side project or tasks that arrive in bursts.
- 02
Join your workflow
Developers work in your repository, tickets and stand-ups. Agree the overlap hours before work starts so both sides know when to expect quick answers.
- 03
Plan onboarding
Set up the environment, walk through the product and codebase, and choose a small real task that touches the main parts of the system.
- 04
Grant access
Start with individual accounts and the least permissions needed for staging. Add production access once the review process is in place.
- 05
Document the agreement
We provide an NDA and hand code ownership to you. Put the working arrangements in place before sensitive project material is shared.
Time zones
Working hours between Germany and India
IST is 4h30m ahead of Germany, or 3h30m ahead during Central European Summer Time, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. Agree a fixed overlap window for stand-ups and quick questions, and keep it free of other meetings on both sides.
We use Slack, WhatsApp or email and regular calls, and you speak directly with the developers doing the work. Put acceptance criteria, screenshots and links in tickets. Handover notes on unfinished work, open questions and decisions help when you are rarely online at the same time.
Rules
What your Germany project has to handle
For a business sending personal data to us in India, plan the transfer alongside the app build: India does not have an EU adequacy decision. We set up the contract with appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard data protection clauses, and include the processor agreement and approval arrangements for any further processors.
If a website for your app stores or reads information on a visitor’s device through non-essential cookies, we set up a consent banner before those cookies are used. Strictly necessary storage for a service the visitor explicitly requested is treated differently.
Vetting
How to judge an iOS developer before you commit
- Ask when they would choose SwiftUI or UIKit for your app. Listen for how they weigh the oldest iOS version you need to support and screens that SwiftUI handles poorly.
- Set a small paid taska SwiftUI app that loads an API list, caches it, displays errors clearly and includes unit tests.
- Install apps they have built from the App Store. Read reviews and check the update history, including whether users report crashes.
- Ask about an App Store rejection they resolved. They should be able to name the guideline involved and explain the change they made.
Checklist
What to have ready before developers start
Give developers enough context to start on useful work.
- A ranked backlog or a first set of clearly described tasks.
- The skills and seniority you need, including mobile experience and any framework or legacy-system experience.
- Your working hours, the overlap you need and the person who will answer developer questions.
- A definition of done covering review rules, expected tests, deployment and approval.
- An architecture overview, coding standards, branching and release process, plus instructions for running the project locally. Record gaps found during onboarding.
Cost & time
What affects the cost of hiring iOS developers
The shape of the work affects the plan and the effort involved.
Codebase condition
Legacy systems and missing documentation narrow the pool of suitable developers and slow onboarding.
Management
The plan changes depending on whether a lead plans work and reviews code or you manage the developer directly.
Hiring model
A studio usually takes on recruitment, payroll, equipment and cover for absence, while direct hiring gives you more control and takes longer to set up.
Platforms
Separate native iOS and Android apps mean two codebases and often two developers. A cross-platform framework can suit simpler apps needed on both.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Germany
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire a dedicated iOS developer?
There is no single fixed price. The commitment you choose, including full-time, part-time or a set number of hours, shapes the plan. So does the amount of your working day the developer must cover. Once the scope is agreed, ask for a quote that sets out those arrangements.
How do I hire dedicated remote developers?
Start with a shared backlog that you can prioritise and review regularly. Have work ready before the developer starts, so they are not waiting for tasks or filling time with low-value items. Regular demos give you a view of progress and direct access to the team.
Can your iOS developers work with my existing developers?
Yes. We fit into your repositories, tools and review process. Keep code reviews in place from the start: early reviews help establish standards and catch misunderstandings while they are still inexpensive to fix. You can assess the work through merged pull requests, demos and shipped features.
What is included alongside iOS development?
Design support includes new pages, interface updates and design system work. Reviews, tests and documentation are part of the code-quality work. For an app that sells digital features, the design also needs to follow App Review rules, including the use of in-app purchase.
Who owns the code and project accounts?
You own your domain, content and code, with no lock-in. Keep repositories, cloud accounts and third-party services under your organisation, and confirm intellectual property assignment in the contract. Use individual accounts instead of a shared admin login, so access can be audited and removed when someone leaves.
Can you support the app after launch?
Yes. Ongoing development includes features, fixes and improvements across your website and apps. For releases, developers use tools such as TestFlight and App Store Connect; builds and releases can also be automated with Xcode Cloud, Fastlane or a CI service such as GitHub Actions.
