Skills
What a good iOS developer brings
Look for someone who can explain how an app is built and maintained, as well as show you the screens. Their choices should make sense for your existing product and the people using it.
- Swift and interfacesThey write Swift, build screens with SwiftUI and can work in UIKit when an existing app or a complex screen calls for it.
- Background workThey use async/await and actors to load data without freezing the interface or letting tasks interfere with shared data.
- Storage and securityThey use SwiftData, Core Data or SQLite for stored data, sync with a server and keep tokens and passwords in the Keychain.
- Accessible screensThey account for Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels, contrast, dark mode and layouts that adapt to screen sizes.
- Review readinessThey understand design choices shaped by App Review, including in-app purchase for digital features and the need to offer more than a repackaged website.
Use cases
What you can hire iOS developers for
Native iOS is a strong fit when the iPhone experience is central to your product, or when graphics, camera, audio or animation performance is a major part of the work. Consumer apps can cover booking, fitness, finance, media or shopping on iPhone and iPad. The right brief describes what users need to do on the device, not only the screens you want to see.
You might need Apple Pay, HealthKit, widgets or Sign in with Apple. Existing apps may need crash fixes, adaptation to new iOS releases or a move from Objective-C or UIKit towards Swift and SwiftUI. For staff and field work, private distribution through Apple Business Manager and your device management setup is another option.
How hiring works
How hiring works with us
You direct the work while we provide developers who already work on our client projects. Hiring through a studio usually moves recruitment, payroll, equipment and cover for absence to the studio.
- 01
Agree the setup
We work in your repository, tickets and stand-ups, with overlap hours agreed before the work starts. Your existing workflow stays visible to you.
- 02
Set up access
Give each developer an individual account with only the permissions needed. Start in staging and add production access once the review process is in place.
- 03
Start with real work
Plan environment setup, a product and code walkthrough, and a small task that touches the main parts of the system. This exposes setup gaps while the developer learns the product.
- 04
Review progress
Use merged pull requests, demonstrations and shipped features to see what has been completed. Meetings alone are a poor measure of development progress.
- 05
Review code early
Establish review standards from the start so misunderstandings are caught while they are cheaper to fix.
Time zones
Working hours between Canada and India
India is 9h ahead of Newfoundland and 12h30m ahead of British Columbia and Yukon in winter. Newfoundland, Atlantic and Eastern Time move 1 hour closer during daylight saving time; Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and Yukon no longer change their clocks.
Agree an overlap window and keep it free for stand-ups and quick questions. Written end-of-day updates let you catch up on progress, blockers and next steps. Add acceptance criteria, screenshots and links to tickets, and leave handover notes on unfinished work and decisions so neither side has to wait for a call to understand what happened.
Rules
What your iOS project in Canada needs to handle
If your app sends personal information to another country for processing, people must be told clearly that this may happen and that the information may be accessible to that country’s law enforcement and national security authorities. We set up the relevant privacy notice in the app so users can find that information.
For personal information communicated outside Québec, your business needs a privacy impact assessment and a written contract with the recipient. We set up the written agreement for the remote work; factor the assessment into the project before that information is shared.
Vetting
How to judge an iOS developer before you commit
- Ask about SwiftUI and UIKit. A useful answer considers the oldest iOS version your app needs to support and any screens that are difficult to build in SwiftUI.
- Set a paid task. A small SwiftUI app that loads an API list, caches it, shows errors clearly and includes unit tests gives you work to review.
- Install their apps. Read App Store reviews and check update history; regular updates and few crash complaints suggest careful maintenance.
- Ask about a rejection. The developer should be able to name the App Review guideline involved and explain the change that resolved it.
Checklist
What to have ready before developers start
A clear brief helps a developer begin on useful work instead of waiting for decisions.
- Rank the backlog or prepare a set of well-described starting tasks.
- Share your working hours, the overlap you need and who will answer questions.
- Define doneagree review rules, expected tests, deployment and approval.
- Provide the architecture overview, coding standards, branching and release process, plus local run instructions. Record gaps found during onboarding.
Cost & time
What affects the cost of hiring iOS developers
The work and the way you manage it shape the plan.
Seniority
Experienced developers cost more and need less supervision; junior developers suit well-defined tasks with close review.
Commitment
Full-time, part-time and set-hours arrangements involve different levels of capacity, as does the notice needed to change them.
Overlap
The amount of your working day a developer needs to cover affects availability and how the plan is set up.
Management
A lead who plans work and reviews code changes the arrangement compared with you managing the developer directly.

Questions
Asked by businesses in Canada
Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire an iOS developer?
There is no fixed price. The skills and seniority your app needs, the capacity you choose and the management involved all shape the scope. We offer full-time, part-time or a fixed number of hours a month, with a lead who reviews code and keeps work on track.
Should I choose native iOS or a web app?
A responsive web app or cross-platform app may suit you better if most users are on Android or your product is mainly forms and content. Separate native iOS and Android apps mean separate codebases and often separate developers, so consider that maintenance work when comparing your options.
What is included when I hire developers through you?
You get a shared backlog whose priorities you control, with regular reviews of that work. We also use code reviews, tests and documentation to keep the work maintainable. Those practices give you a way to discuss what should be built next and how completed work will be maintained.
Can you work with my existing developers?
Yes. We fit into your repositories, tools and review process, so your existing developers can keep using their established workflow. You can communicate through Slack, WhatsApp or email and have regular calls, with direct access to the people doing the work.
Who owns the code and accounts?
You own the code, and we provide an NDA. Keep repositories, cloud accounts and third-party services under your organisation, and confirm intellectual property assignment in the contract. That gives your business control of the accounts and services the app depends on.
Can you support the app after launch?
Yes. Ongoing development covers features, fixes and improvements across your website and apps. You can scale capacity up or down, or pause the plan as your needs change. For release work, builds and releases are often automated with tools such as Xcode Cloud, Fastlane or a CI service.
