Skills
What a good full-stack developer brings
Look for someone who understands how a change in one part of the system affects the rest, and who can explain where they need specialist help.
- Front endBuild screens that work on phones, load quickly and meet basic accessibility needs, using a framework or server-rendered templates.
- Back endBuild APIs with input validation and consistent errors, and check authentication and permissions on the server.
- DeploymentHandle environment variables, pipelines, logs and backups, with a rollback plan if a release needs to be reversed.
- SecurityRecognise risks such as injection, exposed secrets, broken access control and unsafe file uploads across the stack.
- ToolsUse version control, a test runner for each layer, a continuous integration service and error tracking to support review and releases.
Use cases
What you can hire full-stack developers for
A full-stack developer fits an early product or a feature that crosses several layers. You might need a dashboard that combines data from different systems, or an update to an existing web app that changes its database, API and screens.
Other work includes a first version of a startup product or a SaaS application with sign-up, billing, user roles and an admin panel. Larger or more complex products can also need specialists, particularly for a design system or back-end work at scale.
Write down the front end, back end, database and hosting the role covers. Choose the stack before hiring, since developers tend to be strongest in particular tools.
How hiring works
How hiring works with us
You can hire developers full time, part time or for a fixed number of hours a month. The developers already work on our client projects; we do not find freelancers for your engagement.
- 01
Agree the work
Tell us what you need built and how your team works. A lead reviews code and helps keep the work on track.
- 02
Join your workflow
Developers work with your tickets and stand-ups, with working-hour overlap agreed upfront.
- 03
Set up access
Give each developer an individual account with the permissions needed. Start with staging and add production access after the review process is in place.
- 04
Walk through the product
Share the architecture, coding standards, branching and release process, plus instructions for running the project locally. Record gaps discovered during onboarding.
- 05
Start with real work
Plan environment setup and a codebase walkthrough, followed by a small task that touches the main parts of the system.
Time zones
Working hours between Canada and India
IST is 9h ahead of Newfoundland and 12h30m ahead of British Columbia and Yukon in winter. Newfoundland, Atlantic and Eastern Time move 1 hour closer during daylight saving time.
Agree an overlap window for stand-ups and quick questions, and keep it free of other meetings on both sides. We use Slack, WhatsApp or email and hold regular calls; you speak directly with the developers doing the work.
Give tickets acceptance criteria, screenshots and relevant links so the developer has the detail needed to continue when your team is offline.
Rules
What a Canada project needs to handle
Private-sector organisations collecting customer information need to consider where that information is processed. Where foreign processing applies, we set up a clear collection notice explaining that information may be processed abroad and may be accessible to that country’s law enforcement and national security authorities.
For personal information communicated outside Québec, the work needs a privacy impact assessment and a written contract before the transfer. We set up the access workflow so that information is not shared until those steps are complete.
Vetting
How to judge a full-stack developer before you commit
- Ask for a walkthrough of a feature they built, from the database change through deployment. Listen for gaps between the layers and ask how they tested the finished feature.
- Ask which layer they know best and which is weaker. Use the answer to decide where the work needs extra review or specialist support.
- Check their approach to permissions. Hiding a button on a screen is insufficient if the server does not check the same rule.
- Ask how they would release an urgent fix. Look for tests, a staging check, a small release and a way to roll back.
Checklist
What to have ready before developers start
A little preparation gives the developer a clear place to start.
- Rank the backlog or describe the initial tasks well enough for work to begin.
- List the skills and seniority you need, including any framework or legacy-system experience.
- Name the person who will answer questions and set out your working hours and required overlap.
- Define donedocument review rules, expected tests, deployment and approval.
Cost & time
What affects the cost of hiring full-stack developers
The work around the code shapes the plan as well as the development itself.
Management
A lead who plans work and reviews code adds a different responsibility from a plan you manage directly.
Quality checks
Reviews, tests and documentation take work, while giving your team material it can maintain.
Readiness
Hiring before tasks are prepared can leave a developer waiting or working on lower-value items.
Capacity
A plan that scales up or down lets you adjust the development capacity as your needs change.

Page updated 5 November 2026
How much does it cost to hire a dedicated developer?
There is no fixed price. Seniority, the amount of time you need and the working-hour overlap you require shape the plan. An experienced developer generally needs less supervision, while a junior developer suits well-defined tasks with close review. Ask for a quote once the scope and overlap are agreed.
Should I hire a developer full time or part time?
Choose full time when you have a full, ongoing backlog on one product. Part-time or hour-based work suits maintenance, a side project or tasks that arrive in bursts. We let you scale the plan up or down, or pause it, as your needs change.
What is included when I hire through you?
You get a shared backlog whose priorities you control, with regular reviews of what should be done next. We also provide progress updates and demos, so you can see the work and speak directly with the people building it as priorities change.
Who owns the code and accounts?
You own your code, content and domain, with no lock-in. We provide an NDA and hand code ownership to you. Keep repositories, cloud accounts and third-party services under your organisation, and confirm the assignment of intellectual property in the contract.
Can you keep working on the product after launch?
Yes. Ongoing development covers features, fixes and improvements across your website and apps. We also support new pages, interface updates and design system work, so you can put those changes into the plan as your product and team need them.
Can your developers work with my existing team?
Yes. We fit into your repositories, tools and review process. Ask for handover notes covering unfinished work, open questions and decisions, especially when the teams are rarely online together. Keep code reviews in place early so misunderstandings are caught before they spread.
