As of October 2026, a typical business website in India costs ₹60,000 to ₹2,50,000 from a small studio, ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 from a freelancer, and ₹2,50,000 to ₹8,00,000 from a larger agency in Mumbai, Bengaluru or Delhi. A custom company site with original design and a content management system is ₹2 lakh to ₹8 lakh at a studio. A one-page site starts at around ₹8,000; a store or a large corporate site can pass ₹25 lakh.

The spread is wide because the market is wide. India has freelancers on Upwork charging ₹500 an hour and agencies charging ₹5,000 an hour, both calling their product "a website". The table below separates them by site type and supplier so you can see where a quote sits.

What does each type of website cost in India?

Prices exclude GST at 18 percent, which a registered studio must add. Figures are typical quotes, not floors or ceilings.

Site typeFreelancerSmall studioLarger agency
One-page or landing page₹8,000 to 30,000₹30,000 to 1,00,000₹1,00,000 to 3,00,000
Small business site, 5 to 10 pages, template-based₹15,000 to 60,000₹60,000 to 2,50,000₹2,50,000 to 8,00,000
Custom company site, 10 to 30 pages, original design, CMS₹50,000 to 2,00,000₹2,00,000 to 8,00,000₹8,00,000 to 30,00,000+
Online store (Shopify or WooCommerce)₹30,000 to 1,50,000₹1,50,000 to 6,00,000₹6,00,000 to 25,00,000+
Multilingual site (English plus Hindi or regional languages)₹80,000 to 3,00,000₹3,00,000 to 12,00,000₹12,00,000 to 40,00,000+

What separates the three columns is less the code and more who is on the project:

  • A freelancer is one person, usually a developer who also does design, often starting from a purchased theme. Good ones exist and charge towards the top of their column.
  • A small studio has a designer and a developer, custom design, a staging site, and someone who answers your messages the same day. Our website design and development work sits here, built on Next.js or WordPress depending on how much your team needs to edit.
  • A larger agency adds strategy, account managers and often a brand team. Their pricing reflects office rent in Bandra Kurla Complex or Koramangala as much as the work.

What pushes an Indian quote up or down?

The same drivers as anywhere, with a few local twists.

Design: template or custom. Most sub-₹50,000 sites are Astra, Divi or Elementor templates with your content inserted. Custom design, where a designer lays out your pages in Figma first, is what moves a site from ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh and up. It is also what makes a site look like your company rather than a template.

How many distinct page layouts. A 25-page site with five layouts is a five-layout job. Agencies that quote per page are quoting for content entry, which you can often do yourself.

Who writes the copy. Indian studios usually assume you provide final English text. If you want it written, add ₹3,000 to ₹15,000 a page. Translation into Hindi or regional languages is ₹1.5 to ₹4 per word from a professional translator, as of October 2026, plus layout time.

WordPress or custom code. WordPress is cheaper to start with and lets your team edit anything. A custom Next.js build costs more up front, loads faster, needs fewer security updates and is cheaper to host. For a 10-page site that will not change often, the difference in build cost is small; for a site your marketing team updates weekly, WordPress usually wins.

Integrations. A Razorpay payment link, a Zoho CRM form, a WhatsApp Business button, an IndiaMART feed. Each adds a day or two. Our WhatsApp chat button generator covers the simplest one for free.

Speed and search. Cheap builds often ship a 6 MB homepage with 40 plugins. Fixing that later costs more than building it right. Ask whether Core Web Vitals testing and structured data are included.

What are the running costs of a website in India?

The build is a one-off; these recur. As of October 2026:

ItemTypical annual costNotes
.in or .co.in domain₹500 to 1,000Register it in your own account at any accredited registrar; the registry is NIXI
.com domain₹1,000 to 1,800Prices rose in 2025 and 2026 with the rupee
Shared hosting₹3,000 to 10,000Fine for a small WordPress site
Managed WordPress hosting₹10,000 to 40,000Faster, with backups and updates
Static or Next.js hosting₹0 to 20,000Cloudflare's free plan covers most company sites; Vercel's free plan is non-commercial, so use its Pro plan
Business email₹1,500 to 8,000 per userGoogle Workspace or Zoho Mail
Maintenance retainer₹36,000 to 3,00,000₹3,000 to ₹25,000 a month depending on scope
SSL certificate₹0Included free with every decent host now; do not pay for one

Two things to insist on: the domain and hosting accounts are in your company's name, on your company's card. Every year we meet a business whose developer has disappeared with the login to their own domain. The guide to who owns your website explains what to check.

How does GST work on a website project?

Website design and development is a supply of services under GST, taxed at 18 percent as of October 2026. A studio with turnover above the registration threshold must charge it and show its GSTIN on the invoice. If your business is GST-registered, you can normally claim the input tax credit, so the effective cost is the pre-tax price.

If the studio is in India and you are overseas, the work is an export of services. Under a Letter of Undertaking the studio charges zero GST, which is why Indian studios quote foreign clients tax-free. The official rules are on the GST portal. Check with your accountant for your own situation, especially on whether the credit applies to assets you capitalise.

A freelancer who is not registered will not charge GST. That is legal below the threshold, but it also means no GST invoice for your books.

When is a cheap website the right call in India?

Not every business needs the ₹2 lakh version, and a studio that says otherwise is selling, not advising.

  • A local service business with customers from Google Maps and referrals. A Google Business Profile, a one-page site with a click-to-call button and WhatsApp, and good reviews will do more than a 15-page site. Budget ₹10,000 to ₹30,000.
  • A new business still finding its offer. The pages you need in month one will be wrong by month six. Launch a one-pager and rebuild when the offer is stable.
  • A company whose buyers never look at the website. Some B2B trades in India still run on phone calls and visits. Put the money into a clean company profile PDF and a one-page site that proves you exist.

Custom design earns its price when buyers research you before they call, when you compete with companies that have better sites, or when you want the site to bring enquiries on its own. Most of our clients are in that position; many businesses are not yet.

How do you get comparable quotes?

Send every supplier the same brief: page list, two or three sites you like, who writes the copy, which tools to connect, your deadline and your budget range. The guide to writing a website brief has a template that takes an hour to fill in and makes the quotes you receive comparable.

Ask for the price with and without GST, with the list of exclusions, and with the payment schedule. A 50 percent advance and 50 percent on launch is normal in India; 100 percent up front is not. For whether a fixed price or hourly billing protects you better, read fixed price versus hourly.

For a quick number before you write to anyone, the website cost calculator gives a range from page count, features and design level. Switch it to rupees and it shows its assumptions, so you can see which choices move the price.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Is GST charged on website development in India?

Yes. Website design and development is a service and attracts GST at 18 percent as of October 2026. A registered studio must add it to the invoice; a freelancer below the registration threshold may not. If your company is registered you can usually claim it as input credit. Confirm with your accountant.

Why are some quotes under ₹10,000?

Those are template installs: a purchased WordPress theme, your logo and text added, no custom design and little testing. They can be fine for a basic presence. Expect to pay again within a year or two if the business depends on the site for enquiries.

Do I pay more if my company is outside India?

Indian studios serving overseas clients often quote in USD, AED or GBP at rates closer to the client's market, though still below local agencies there. Export of services is zero-rated for GST under a Letter of Undertaking, so no GST is added. The work and the team are the same.
